✨ Ludovico’s Birth Story ✨

Grace’s third birth is a beautiful reminder of what continuity of care can mean.

After already experiencing a positive homebirth five years ago, she knew she wanted to return to that familiar space of trust, confidence and support. From the first reassuring phone call, to labouring with her birth candle, the Freya app, her husband by her side, her eldest son offering a heartfelt shoulder massage, and her doula arriving just as she entered the water, every detail tells the story of a family surrounded by care.

Stories like this remind us that birth is not only about where your baby is born, but about feeling safe, informed and supported by the people around you. 🫂

⭐️As midwives, we strongly recommend that if your waters break or labour begins, you contact your midwife promptly, (even if your doula or other birth support is already with you)

Thank you, Grace, for sharing such an intimate and powerful story with us. 🏡👶

🌿🧺 Save the date! 🧁

We’re excited to invite our current and previous Venus Homebirth families to our annual picnic at Osterley Park, where we come together each year to celebrate our 6th anniversary of the Venus Homebirth Team.

📅 Sunday 5 July 2026
🕑 2:00–4:00 PM
📍 Osterley Park

Bring your picnic basket, blanket and the whole family for an afternoon of laughter, catching up and making more lovely memories together.

Cake and cupcakes will be provided! 🧁🍰

Please save the date — you will receive this invitation by message/email, with details on how to confirm your attendance.
As we do not have access to a covered indoor space this year, we may need to postpone in the event of bad weather. 🌧️ Please keep an eye on this space, and we will also contact you by email if the forecast looks particularly unfavourable.

We can’t wait to see you all there! 💛

International Day of the Midwife 2026 🤍

A little reel for fun… but behind it is why we love what we do.

Supporting families to birth at home, building relationships over time, and providing true continuity of carer — being there from pregnancy, through birth, and into those first days after. It’s a privilege we don’t take lightly.

This is us, briefly off duty… reconnecting, recharging, and being human together. Because the strength of our care comes from the strength of our team.

A big shout to all midwives and student midwives who do this work with passion and care — today and every day 🤍

Our 2025 homebirth statistics are here ✨📊

We’re proud to share outcomes from families who planned to birth at home with our team. These results reflect continuity of care 🤝, careful assessment 🩺 and strong teamwork across services 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️.

Homebirth is one birth setting option within NHS maternity care 🏡🏥. Every woman and birthing person is entitled to information about their choices, including the benefits, considerations and available pathways of care 💛.

Where there are additional factors in pregnancy or labour, we offer personalised discussions, informed choice and ongoing planning 💬📝. This may include working closely with consultant midwives, obstetricians and the wider maternity team to make a care plan that is safe, clear and individual to that family 🤝.

Our data also includes families with more complex clinical backgrounds who received extra review and support throughout pregnancy 🩺✨. Plans may evolve as pregnancy or labour progresses, and decisions are made together with the family using the information available at the time 🔄.

Our role is not to direct anyone towards one setting over another, but to provide balanced information, respectful care and support each family in making the decisions that feel right for them ⚖️💛.

We’re proud of these outcomes, and just as proud of the collaborative care behind them 🙌✨

🤍 A Birth Story Beyond the Plan – Part 2 🤍

Labour had begun, but as so often happens with birth, the journey continued to unfold in its own way.

This second part of Megan’s story holds the intensity, the unexpected turns, and the moments where support mattered most. Through every change of plan, she was never alone.

Birth does not have to look one certain way to be powerful. Sometimes strength is found in adapting, trusting, and feeling held throughout the process ✨

Thank you to Megan for sharing her story with us, and for reminding us that positive birth experiences can take many different paths.

If you missed our virtual Meet the Midwives meeting yesterday, here is one of the birth stories that was shared 🤍

Not every birth journey begins with a straightforward path. This story includes long weeks of waiting, difficult decisions, outside pressure, and the kind of support that can make all the difference 🤍

In Part 1, Megan shares the beginning of her journey and the moments that led her towards labour 🏡

Sometimes the most important part of birth is not where it happens, but how supported, heard, and cared for you feel along the way.

✨ Part 2 will be shared tomorrow 🙂‍↔️

🏡 Day 5 postnatal visit 🌿

As your homebirth team, we come to see you at home around day 5 after birth to continue caring for you and your baby during those early days.

During this visit we usually:
👶 weigh your baby
💬 check in on feeding and how you are both doing
🩸 offer the Newborn Blood Spot Screening (NBBS)

The NBBS involves collecting a few small drops of blood from your baby’s heel onto a special card. The sample is sent to the laboratory to screen for rare but serious conditions, where early detection can make a big difference for treatment and care.

Everything we do is always discussed with you first and carried out with your informed consent.
Your questions, preferences and choices are always respected.

A homebirth story 🏡✨

Your birth unfolded in the place where your family already lives, loves, and feels safe — surrounded by familiar faces, calm voices, and gentle support. From the warm bath, to the laughter, to becoming a family of four together, every part of this journey was held with care and trust.

These are the moments that make homebirth so special — not because it’s perfect, but because it allows space for connection, instinct, and family to lead the way.

Welcome to the world, Hudson 🤍
Naomi, congratulations on the beautiful birth of your son.
Thank you for trusting us and for sharing such a meaningful beginning with us.
