GamFam Charity

GamFam Charity A registered charity (1191139) to support those affected by gambling harms. As a family, we had no-one to talk to.

GamFam is a registered charity (1191139) set up by those who have experienced first-hand the devastating effects that gambling can have on family and friends. We had no idea where to go for support, nor that a gambling addiction was in fact, a recognised mental well-being disorder. Things could have been so different for our family, ‘if only we knew then, what we know now’. It is with this ‘lived

experience’ we hope that your family will also be able to start recovering from the effects of gambling harms.

Hi all, I thought it might be nice to share my video that I send out to new Affected Others members who join GamFam. I feel like it’s important to stress that everyone who works with GamFam has all been members ourselves and still are - my husband had a secret gambling addiction for years and I had no idea. I was so angry and confused when I first found out - the resentment was off the scale - and I don’t know how being in a Peer Support group calmed me down, but it did. I talked things through, learnt more and listened to other peoples’ stories.

There’s no right or wrong way to have as your outcome either - some people have stayed and some people have left. We have groups for parents, siblings, sons and daughters too.

So hopefully you might be able to find some comfort from not only being in this group, but maybe joining us at GamFam too 💚💙

We are proud and humbled to be celebrating our 5th year as a Charity today (3rd September).

We have always tried to keep it simple and our mission remains the same to offer hope to anyone affected by gambling harms through our Peer Support meetings and provide the opportunity to share their experiences in a safe space, without fear of judgment with others who have genuine empathy and understanding.

We have now held 2500+ various meetings and currently have 24 different groups (including our recently introduced Women's Recovery group) that run each week with 300+ members getting regular support with us. It's amazing to think that we still have some of our original members that were part of our pilot group that met for the first time way back in July 2020.

We have also continued to raise public awareness and understanding of the impact of gambling harms through our accredited CPD information and Awareness sessions and more recently have launched our brand new KS2 and KS3 Online, Gaming and Gambling Harms workshops.

On behalf of the trustees we would like to say a huge thank you to every one involved or associated with GamFam over the last 5 years. We would like to acknowledge all of our members past and present who have attended groups offering such amazing support based on their own unique lived experience.
