Four years ago, we attempted a visit to An Lochan Uaine - the green loch in Aviemore but we found the route impossible in a manual wheelchair.

On returning home, feeling a little deflated, I looked at devices that could make this possible and found the Triride.

I didn't have £5000 spare, so I set up a GoFundMe. I aimed to raise £3000 and put myself into £2000 worth of debt - not ideal but £2000 is a lot less than £5000!

I set the target for £3000 and explained the difference this would make to my life and how I could go more places with my family.

Kind friends, colleagues, followers and blog readers donated, bringing me to £2000 within days, then I received an anonymous* donation of £1500.

*When an anonymous donation is made the fundraiser sees their name - the public doesn't.

I expressed my gratitude on a GoFundMe post and that I'd find the rest of the funds.

That same person gave a second £1500 donation, bringing me to my target. I was utterly blown away.

In April last year, we finally made the trip back to Aviemore and to An Lochan Uaine - it was nothing short of magical.

I'm forever grateful to everyone who made this possible.

I've pinned a video in the comments 📌

Requiring phone conversations to access medical care is beyond backwards. It’s 2026 and email’s been around for decades. Forcing people who can’t use phones for whatever reason to call for urgent care is inexcusable. Do better NHS Highland NHS Scotland.

Booking a GP appointment shouldn't feel like an Olympic sport. From inaccessible phone lines to ignored communication needs, accessing basic healthcare in the UK remains a massive hurdle. What is the single biggest barrier you face at your local clinic?

📢Are you a Kinship Carer?

Do you know someone who is?

Why not come along to our fortnightly Kinship Carer Support Group and connect with others who truly understand the journey you're on?

Whether you come on your own or bring someone along, you'll be welcomed with a cuppa, some food, and plenty of time for a good blether. ☕🍪

Kinship care can sometimes feel isolating, but it doesn't have to be. We're building a supportive, friendly community where carers can share experiences, find encouragement, and know they're not alone.

Whether you're new to kinship care or have been doing it for years, there's a seat at the table for you.

💜 Friendly faces
💜 Tea, coffee and snacks
💜 A chance to connect with others who get it

📅 Thursday 10th September, Ongoing Fortnightly
⏰ 11:30am - 12:30pm
📍 The Hub, Action for Children Office
1st Floor, Highland Rail House,
Station Square, Academy Street,
Inverness, IV1 1LE

We'd love to see you there. Because no one should have to navigate kinship care alone. ❤️

If the only thing keeping you from coming by is needing a ride, please email me at [email protected] or call/text at 07483 505 224. I'll come pick you up!
