Learning Disability Week 2026: Stories That Deserve to Be Heard 💜

Today, we’re sharing Kweku’s message.

For Kweku, Learning Disability Week is a chance to celebrate the achievements of people with a learning disability and recognise everything they can accomplish.

He reminds us that having a learning disability doesn’t mean people can’t do things - it simply means they may need the right support along the way. With understanding, encouragement, and opportunity, people can achieve incredible things.

Learning Disability Week is about recognising those successes, breaking down barriers, and making sure everyone is seen, valued, and included.

Watch Kweku’s video to hear why celebrating achievements and supporting one another matters.

Learning Disability Week 2026: Stories That Deserve to Be Heard 💜

Today, we’re sharing Jasvinder’s story.

For Jasvinder, Learning Disability Week is about opening up, sharing achievements, and showing what is possible when you keep believing in yourself. After five years of hard work and determination, he achieved his goal of publishing his book, You Are the Champion.

Jasvinder also reminds us why Learning Disability Week matters. Everyone is different, and that’s something to celebrate. We all have unique strengths, experiences, and challenges, and the world would be a much less interesting place if we were all the same.

Watch Jasvinder’s video to hear his inspiring message and learn why embracing difference makes our communities stronger.

Learning Disability Week 2026 - ‘Do you see me?” 💜

Learning Disability Week is a special week that we celebrate every year.

This year it runs from Monday 15th June to Sunday 21st June 2026.

It’s a week where people share what life is like if you have a learning disability - the joys, the challenges, the everyday experiences, and the things that matter most.

This year’s theme, “Do you see me?”, is all about being seen, heard, included, and valued in every part of society. It’s a reminder that visibility isn’t just about being noticed - it’s about being recognised for who you are and what you bring to the world.

At One Place East, we are committed to supporting people to be seen and heard. Through our user involvement work, we help people build confidence, develop skills, and take part in shaping the services that affect their lives. Whether attending meetings, sharing ideas, or influencing change, these opportunities empower people to have a strong voice and greater independence.

As we mark Learning Disability Week, let’s take time to listen, learn, and reflect on how we can make our communities more inclusive.

Together we can ensure that people with a learning disability are not only seen but truly recognised for who they are and what they contribute.

✨ Stay tuned throughout the week as we share what Learning Disability Week means to the OPE community - in people’s own words, experiences, and voices.

And that’s a wrap on Volunteers’ Week 2026 💛✨

As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we want to say a huge thank you to every single volunteer who gives their time, energy and heart to One Place East.

You’re the reason our projects run, our groups feel welcoming, and our community stays connected. Whether you’re supporting events, sharing skills, offering a listening ear or helping behind the scenes, you make One Place East what it is - a place where people feel included, supported and seen.

We’re proud of the difference you make all year round, and we’re grateful for the kindness and commitment you bring to our community.

Huge thank you to Shameela & Natalie, who planned and worked hard behind the scenes this week to ensure our Volunteers celebration was a success! We are lucky to have you both.

⭐ And a special thank‑you to our trustees. Your time and unwavering commitment help shape our organisation.

Whether working behind the scenes or helping to guide our future, your support makes a difference. We are incredibly grateful for all that you bring and for the dedication you show throughout the year.

Thank you for everything you do - we truly couldn’t do it without you. ⭐️

Today’s Volunteer Spotlight is: Jan Mitchell ✨

As Volunteers’ Week continues, today we’re highlighting Jan - a steady, thoughtful presence at One Place East whose time and care make a real difference 💛

After retiring last year, Jan wanted to give something back. She stepped forward to volunteer, offering warmth, conversation and support to people who may be at risk of feeling isolated.

💬 “When I retired a year ago I wanted to give something back to One Place East. Knowing that there was a shortage of volunteers, I applied to become a volunteer. I really enjoy helping to make a difference to people’s lives who are at risk of becoming isolated. Just having a chat over a cup of tea can make a big difference to someone who is lonely.”

Jan, thank you for the time you give, the comfort you offer, and the way you help people feel connected. We’re truly grateful to have you as part of our community and are grateful that even though you are not staff anymore - we still get the pleasure of having you around. 💛
