To mark , we’re posting every day this week about teachers and inclusive education.

The WTD theme this year is “Standing with teachers. Protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures”.

This theme reminded us of two blogs we published years ago:

These blogs discussed how inclusive education training programmes often assumed teachers can just be reprogrammed to be inclusive, through a short workshop delivered by education project managers who may never have been teachers.

Have things changed since we published these in 2018? Do we now have approaches to inclusive education training that more effectively protect and respect teacher professionalism and wellbeing?

The Inclusive Home Learning collection

30 years ago, when EENET’s original steering group first debated a definition of inclusive education, a key point arose:

* Inclusive education is about more than just formal schooling. *

Learning happens everywhere, and all of this learning should be inclusive.

A few years ago, we took this concept and developed a set of resources to support inclusive home learning in resource-limited contexts. This might be during times of crisis or just giving ongoing support to every child’s learning at home and in the community.

The poster and activities booklet are available in multiple languages.

We also still have some printed copies of the home learning poster in certain languages, if anyone has the funds to pay for postage!

NEW: Online community and resource collection.

This free network is for anyone interested in inclusive education training for teachers and organisations for persons with disabilities.

Join now and:

- learn about the Inclusive Learning Approach (ILA) innovations and successes;
- access all the free guidance and training materials for the ILA 'inclusive teaching component' and the 'inclusive advocacy component';
- receive inclusive education news updates;
- chat with other educators, trainers and education programme managers.

The ILA training materials currently focus on Zambia, Zanzibar, Uganda and Somalia but are adaptable for any country.

Network members can:
- ask each other questions about how to adapt and use the ILA materials in their context;
- share their experiences of adapting and using the materials in different contexts.

“This vicious cycle of climate destruction, lost educational opportunity, and reduced skills for climate resilience is not an accident… At the heart of both educational exclusion and environmental degradation lies a common driver: the prioritisation of power, wealth, and control and the sidelining of equity and collective wellbeing.
