EMERGENCY FUNDRAISER - CALLIE AND SIMBA

🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛Please donate what you can - we desperately need to help these little guys. You can donate below, or ask us for our bank details! 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

We desperately need your help for these coming weeks. We have two gorgeous cats with us at the moment that need critical medical treatment, and for these two the costs are going to be overwhelmingly high. We’re into the scary numbers here.

First is little Callie. She’s just a baby at only 11 weeks old and yet she is fighting so hard for her life. Despite everything she is going through, she still plays with her toys, snuggles into our arms for cuddles and naptime, and purrs with all the love in her tiny body.

Callie is having regular seizures, and vets suspect she may have a liver shunt. In simple terms, this means blood may be bypassing her liver instead of flowing through it properly. The liver is meant to filter toxins and help the body process nutrients. If blood skips the liver, those toxins can build up in her system and affect her brain and body. It can cause seizures, confusion, poor growth, sickness, weakness, and without treatment it can become life-threatening. She needs more urgent tests so vets can confirm what is happening and decide if surgery or specialist treatment can save her.

Then there is Simba. Simba came to us after suffering terrible neglect. His previous owner left a painful ear infection untreated for an entire year. If you have ever had an ear infection, you know how agonising they can be. Now imagine living with that pain every single day for a year.

This infection caused huge polyps to grow deep inside his ear canal. One has already been removed, but vets cannot safely do more without full internal imaging (a CT scan) to see the extent of the damage and what surgery he now needs. This means a referral, so we are now entering the territory of thousands in vet bills, and that is before the surgery itself!

But these two cats deserve comfort. They deserve relief and they deserve a chance to live healthy, happy lives after all they are going through. We can’t do this one alone. This fundraiser is going to need to be a biggie! We ask so much of you, but we know our followers care for our beautiful cats as much as we do. Please, if you can donate any amount at all, it will help. No amount is too small. If you cannot donate, please share this post far and wide - someone in your friends list may be able to help save Callie and Simba.

Every share matters. Every penny matters. Every act of kindness matters.

Please help us fight for them ❤️🐾

Please help lovely people of Facebook!

At least two out of a litter of five kittens (and maybe a third) are going to need major eye surgery soon. We recently posted about the ‘Penny Sweet’ kittens from a hoarding situation, and this is how two of them are looking now. Parma Violet is blind and very likely to need both eyes removed after a nasty, untreated infection. Dolly Mixture has one eye ruptured from infection that will also need an enucleation procedure. Surgeries are always costly, and we could really use your help.
Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated. Click the DONATE button below and follow the prompts.

Thank you so much, we cannot do the work we do without your donations.

A new year - a new problem! Last year we had a very successful (thank you!) and huge fundraiser for a new roof to stop the rain coming into the centre. Our new roof is finished and fabulous and we’ve really appreciated it with the weather this winter 🌧️

Unfortunately, we recently discovered that water had been busy elsewhere in the building too - the floor in our isolation ward. We started to notice a dip in the floor and a somewhat worrying feeling of softness underfoot. We have our essential hospital pens for cats here, so we needed to investigate asap! Ansells Carpentry & Renovations came over to assess and repair, and found that the wood floor was completely rotten underneath the vinyl. The water damage had obviously been at work for a long time, as they discovered huge fungi up to 18 inches wide!

A huge thank you to the team from Ansells for patching us up so quickly and efficiently, and for treating the unwelcome houseguests! 🍄

We didn’t expect to start the new year with another building fundraiser, but here we are, and we need your help to cover the bills. If you can donate anything at all, or share the post, we would be so grateful! Thank you all for your unwavering support, as always 💜

Toby’s story - follow the rest of Toby’s story on our main page 🐈‍⬛

With the medication and diet started, Toby’s seizures became less frequent and he returned to being a friendly, lively kitten, idolising/tormenting the very patient resident cats and befriending anyone who came to visit. New Start started looking at options for a skilled vet who would be willing to attempt the specialised surgery required for this condition, cue Maddie & Kate from Orchard View Vets!

Toby was introduced to the fantastic team at Orchard View where he made himself at home and gave all of the staff cuddles 😻 luckily everyone fell in love with our little scamp as he was about to become a more regular visitor as the seizures returned…

The following week saw 2 separate episodes of cluster seizures, where Toby had 3 seizures over a 24 hr period, not once but twice in a week! An exhausted Toby and his foster mum became frequent flyers at Orchard View Vets where this amazing team continued to research available treatments and thankfully found a seizure medication that could be used in a kitten with a liver condition. With this, and increased medication to suit his nicely growing body, he returned home and continued to gain weight, managing to be seizure-free for over a week!

Being now that bit bigger and more stable, Orchard View decided that it was time to start the process of looking at treatment options, first by re-running blood tests to confirm the condition to be followed by an ultrasound to check whether an operation was viable.

So Toby returned to Orchard View for blood tests, but this little kitten was not yet done keeping everyone on their toes…

** We really appreciate everyone who supports us here at New Start Cat Rescue, cases like this require time and support from the volunteers but also a lot of funding for the repeated vet visits and tests. Thank you to everyone who donates, we really appreciate it, it’s how we manage to care for the cats who come to us and provide them with the care and treatment they need. If you would like to donate please visit…. **

The last couple of weeks have been incredibly tough for us. Our centre is full, and we’ve been battling an outbreak of panleukopenia, a fast-spreading, often fatal virus, right as other illnesses have hit our kitten population, too. We do have a quarantine space and have done everything we can to contain it, but some kittens were already exposed before we knew any were sick, as it can be highly contagious well before any symptoms show.

We’ve lost babies — including some old enough to be vaccinated, but who hadn’t received theirs because they were stray, or unwanted, or simply uncared for. They became sick and passed the virus to younger kittens who barely stand a chance. Please, if you have cats or kittens yourself, please vaccinate them and keep up to date with yearly booster jabs. We cannot stress enough how important this is, to protect both your cats and those with no owners to care enough to vaccinate them!

Several kittens that became unwell are still hanging in there, and we’re fighting for every single life. But with so many kittens hospitalised, the vet bills are rising quickly, and we need help to keep going.

If you can donate — even just a little — it will go directly toward lifesaving care for these kittens.

We’re heartbroken and exhausted, but we’re not giving up. Please, help us keep going.
