What standards should we hold our public leaders to — and can a deeply flawed person still lead effectively?

My blog from November 2024 was in response to comments on Linked In. It examined the controversies around Donald Trump and asked whether those issues matter for national leadership.

I will be writing a follow-up piece now that President Trump has once again made his presence felt on the world stage, as well as in the hearts and minds of those who loathe and love him.

The BBC has been accused of “brainwashing” children after a Mail on Sunday investigation found that BBC Bitesize was promoting what it described as “extreme” left-wing views on migration, Net Zero and inequality to millions of pupils.

One online game, Increasing Immigration, rewards players for choosing “open borders” and granting an amnesty to illegal migrants. The site also labels concerns that migrants may take local jobs as “prejudiced” and highlights the economic benefits of migration.

Pupils are encouraged to campaign for controversial Net Zero policies and join human rights groups such as Amnesty International. The site also praises Black Lives Matter and left-wing activists such as Greta Thunberg.

These are deeply alarming revelations. They add to concerns about the BBC’s political impartiality, particularly following a series of scandals, including its editing of a speech by President Trump.

It is now unremarkable, but still wholly unsatisfactory, that mainstream political events reveal hostility and antipathy against Britain’s unarguably Christian roots, heritage, culture, language, values and national religion. The most recent exposure has been at the Lib Dems conference.

Increasingly the British Electorate see how unsuited to government and any form of public leadership and influence are those engaged in mainstream politics. We wouldn’t want our children to behave in the manner of the LibDems when hearing something they disagreed with.

For Tim Dieppe from Christian Concern, speaking doubtless in his usual mild mannered and measured tone, to be booed at an event when he stated “that the decline in marriage is bad for society” is an indication of how far those attendees and their political party have regressed in their capacity for rational thought and courteous, reasoned discussion.

In all human society, throughout history, marriage and the distinct roles of fathers and mothers, has continued to be the foundation of well-being and flourishing. In blatant disregard of the facts, some in Britain are determined to create an alternative way of living.

Yet their preoccupying death wish to exterminate this reality is only held by activists – in the civil service, other public institutions, mainstream political parties, the BBC and legacy media, ideologues and academia. Most regrettably, the Church of England, at least as far as its leadership is concerned, has joined this faction of extremists.

The majority of people in Britain do not agree and want our nation to return to its historic roots and better way of living.

The extremists and activists may control the mainstream political parties, media, public institutions, academia and The Church of England.

But they are not the nation. ‘We The People’ are.

And The British People in increasingly our finding their voice, their feet and their hands to become active in the process of restoring Britain.

Update: the Met Police has now completed its internal review of my Freedom of Information request — and still won’t release (or even properly consider releasing in redacted form) the legal advice behind its decision not to investigate Sadiq Khan’s defence of the “From the river to the sea” chant.

Five months after I complained to the Information Commissioner’s Office, they still haven’t issued a decision. I’ve reminded them, in writing, of their clear legal duty under the FOIA.

The IOPC declined to use its power of initiative. MOPAC has refused to recuse itself and says its review could take up to eight months.

Every official route is moving slowly.
