🌿 It’s time to get a little wilder this June! 🌿

We’re excited to support 30 Days Wild, the UK’s biggest nature challenge from The Wildlife Trusts.

The idea is simple: do one wild thing a day throughout June. It could be listening to birdsong, spotting butterflies, taking a walk in nature, planting wildflowers, or simply taking a moment to appreciate the wildlife around you.

At Kennet Valley Wetland Reserve, we know just how powerful connecting with nature can be – for wildlife, for wellbeing, and for our local community.

Why not join thousands of people across the UK and make June your wildest month yet? 🦋🐝🌼

Last week the world celebrated, World Bee Day 🐝💛

A moment to celebrate some of the smallest — yet most important — creatures in our ecosystem.

Bees play a vital role in pollinating wildflowers, crops, trees and plants, helping entire habitats to thrive. A healthy wetland landscape would become an incredibly important haven for pollinators, providing nectar-rich planting, wildflower meadows, undisturbed habitats and a flourishing natural environment.

At the future Kennet Valley Wetland Reserve, we hope to create a space where wildlife and people can thrive side by side — from buzzing pollinators and butterflies to birds, mammals and aquatic life.

Even simple actions can make a huge difference for bees:
🌼 Let wildflowers grow
🐝 Avoid harmful pesticides
🌱 Plant pollinator-friendly flowers
💧 Leave shallow water sources out during hot weather

As the UK enjoys this spell of warm sunshine, many pollinators are at their busiest — a gentle reminder of just how connected we are to the natural world around us.

With temperatures soaring across the UK today, wetlands really come alive ☀️🌿

On hot days, a wetland becomes a haven for wildlife looking to cool down, feed and shelter. Dragonflies dart across the water, frogs and toads hide amongst the reeds, and birds gather at the water’s edge to drink and bathe. If you’re lucky, you may even spot butterflies basking in the sunshine or hear the buzz of insects thriving in the warm conditions.

Wetlands also play a huge role during hot weather by helping to naturally regulate temperatures, retain water during dry spells, and provide vital cooling spaces for both wildlife and people alike 💧

As we dream about the future of the Kennet Valley Wetland Reserve, days like today remind us just how important these habitats are — not only for nature, but for our own wellbeing too.

WOW. What an incredible result! 🌿💚

Thanks to the generosity, support and belief of our amazing community, The Big Give campaign raised an outstanding £21,460 for the future of the Kennet Valley Wetland Reserve!
On top of this, the wonderful campaign at Cobbs raised a further £632 — making every donation go even further for the project.

We are so incredibly grateful to every single person who donated, shared our posts, supported the campaign and helped spread the word. This support brings us another huge step closer to creating a thriving wetland reserve for wildlife, education and the whole community to enjoy for generations to come.

Thank you for believing in the vision 🌾🦆🐝

May is when the Kennet Valley Wetland Reserve will truly come alive… 🌿✨

As the days lengthen and temperatures rise, the wetland will burst into colour, sound and movement — a place full of life at every turn.

Expect to see:
🦆 Ducklings and goslings taking their first wobbly journeys across the water

🐦 Warblers in full song — reed warblers, sedge warblers and chiffchaffs filling the air with that unmistakable spring chorus

🦋 Butterflies emerging, dancing over wildflowers and grasses
🐝 Bees hard at work, bringing the wetland to life with their gentle hum

🌸 Wildflowers in bloom, adding splashes of colour along the banks and pathways

🐸 Frogs and toads active, with tadpoles developing in the shallows

The whole reserve will feel vibrant and alive — a space not just for wildlife, but for people too. Whether it’s a peaceful morning walk, a quiet moment by the water, or simply soaking in the sounds of nature, May will be one of the most magical times to visit.

This is what we’re working towards — a thriving, accessible wetland right here in the Kennet Valley.

We can’t wait to share it with you 💚
