Ruddi's Retreat - Providing Holidays From The Heart

Ruddi's Retreat - Providing Holidays From The Heart "Ruddi's Retreat".. is my dream.. A dream that is slowly becoming a reality..:-)
Providing memorable holidays for families facing challenging times.

When My son Ruddi was diagnosed with prostate and bladder Cancer at just 6 1/2 months old he spent months going through chemotherapy, he endured countless operations, and then had to travel to America for 3 months to receive Proton Therapy. Thankfully Ruddi is now in remission but he is not unscathed, he is now registered disabled and has many operations still to come but his overall outlook is no

w brighter. During this extremely stressful and challenging time, I was privileged enough to be able to take Ruddi and the rest of my family on a respite holiday to Primrose Valley, this was provided for by the fantastic Charity ‘Candlelighters’, the time spent in the caravan will always hold very special memories for Ruddi and my family, it was the place where he took his first steps, the Chemotherapy had left him with very weak bones and it was feared he may not be able to reach this milestone as quick as other children are able to. We are now a registered Charity and are the proud owners of two beautiful static caravan's in Primrose Valley (where else) These caravan's are the first of many places of respite and joy for families. How you can help! We realise that the economic climate is not great at the moment and that times are hard, but to be able to reach our goal, we really need the generous support of local businesses. We would be deeply grateful for any form of help or support you may be able to provide, from donations to sponsorship of events. Your support big or small would be so gratefully received and would assist those who find themselves in the same position Ruddi and myself were once in . Anything you are able to offer will help bring the retreat closer to the people that need it. If supporting this worthy charity is something you could help us with please do contact us as every little really does help. Our Blackpool Caravan is absolutely stunning..! Now it has been relocated to a Haven site it enjoys the same (if a little smaller) facilities as the Primrose Valley Vans and as this lovelt feedback shows, the location is absolutely brilliant.

Thank you Ruddi's Retreat for our holiday at Marton Mere.

The caravan was superb, very comfortable with all home comforts and with a wonderful veranda where we sat enjoying the peaceful location, which was also very close to the amenities.

We are not as active as we once were, so it was great that a short walk and we were at the restaurant, shop and the nature reserve.
On Monday, a short taxi ride took us to Blackpool to sit on the prom enjoy the sun and sea, and of course an ice cream!

We feel very lucky to have been able to take some welcome time out, relax and enjoy different surroundings.

THank you for taking the time to write to us, we are so pleased that you enjoyed it so much.

A huge thank you to Sam Teale Productions for creating such a powerful video and helping us tell our story so beautifully.
Every event attended, every raffle ticket bought, every donation made and every share on social media helps us continue supporting families when they need it most.

As you watch the video, please remember that none of this happens without the generosity of people like you. SAVE THE DATE - SUNDAY 30TH MAY 2027!

We are reflecting back on what a wonderful day our 2026 Slaithwaite Scarecrow Fest was and looking forward to next years event which is promising to be bigger and better already.

We love to celebrate our little village here in Slaithwaite! We have some wonderful small businesses two of which won awards on the day. Here is a little more about who they are and what they do:

Experience Community is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company plus a charity which aims to help physically disabled people access the outdoors through a range of walking, cycling, arts, crafts and conservation activities.

They run regular inclusive walking and adapted off-road cycling activities from both their Slaithwaite office and their Leeds hub where people can try out and use one of their specialist off-road wheelchairs or cycles.

They also run a project called "All Together Now" which has weekly activities from Slaithwaite to help build community engagement and reduce social isolation. This includes book clubs, board game clubs and lego clubs, gardening days, and social walks along the canal. Around half their staff have a disability and are well placed to offer support, guidance and understanding to any disabled people who would like to join them. Their Slaithwaite office includes a Changing Places facility and is fully wheelchair accessible.

Everyone is welcome to join them, so get in touch if you would like to pop along for a brew and a chat!

Valli Opticians

Valli was founded in 2005 as an independent optician’s practice — Valli Opticians, by local optometrist Moin Valli and his wife Rachel. Born in the north, Moin was raised to care for others and the wider community throughout his childhood, living in a friendly neighbourhood where people supported each other. He has carried those values with him throughout his life and career.

Valli has grown considerably over the years and now includes multiple practices throughout the Yorkshire and North West region and beyond, with a strong focus on local eye care, supporting the ethos of shopping locally and caring for the community. As a family business that also believes in employing locally, Valli strives to make a positive impact on the surrounding area, being actively involved in initiatives for local schools, businesses and charities. One of their initiatives, The Valli Rally, is an annual countryside trek that raises money for Outlookers and encourages people to gather, get active and connect with one-another.

Today, the businesses have grown to offer more health services to the community — with audiology now available to take care of hearing, the Valli Opticians ‘Seeing Red’ campaign for children’s vision screening in schools and Co-Optic care, visiting local businesses that require eye care services.

Valli believes in looking after people like family, taking more time for appointments, being thorough, asking questions and building relationships year on year with the same friendly team to welcome and look after you.

Another fabulous letter from a family that have just stayed at Ruddi's Retreat, we really do apprecaite it when people take time to thank us, we know that our work is priceless but feedback like this clarifies it for us.

First of all I would just like to extend a massive thank you from myself and my family for our stay this weekend at the beautiful Ruddis Retreat. We have had an absolutely fantastic time and are leaving feeling relaxed and recharged with plenty of new memories in the bank. The caravan itself is stunning, wonderfully decorated with intricate details that make you feel like it really is a home away from home. The friends and families passes were also a great addition we made use of these with swimming twice and also using the 15% discount in retail shops / restaurants and also the 50% off experiences.

As a carer I can often feel overwhelmed and burnt out. it is now very often you get something back so to have this break and be able to bring my family along was amazing it really was and I am so grateful for the opportunity. Thank you to the amazing team that work so hard behind the scenes to ensure carers/families are able to enjoy things like this, thank you all again so much ❤️

I ensured bins were emptied, beds were stripped and replenished some bits and bobs as requested in the notes such as toilet roll, coffee, washing up liquid.

We are hopeful to visit again in the future.

Warm regards,
The Langford Family

Thank you so much for your lovely words, we are deligted that you had a good time and really appreciate you topping up some bits and bats for the next family.

How beautiful are these pictures??

We had such a brilliant stay at Ruddi’s retreat.

As a single mum to two girls, (one of which has Down’s syndrome and is peg fed and uses a wheelchair) it can be difficult to find opportunities like this, and we are so truly grateful. The caravan is set up perfectly for those with disabilities, there was plenty of room for our needs. The site is wonderful and so inclusive and we feel so lucky to have been able to enjoy the weekend there.

Thank you for your kind words, we are absolutely delighted that you all had a fabulous stay at Ruddi's Retreat.

Love from all of us at
