WIRRAL COUNCIL CALL FOR SITES 2026

The Council is inviting potential development sites to be submitted through a ‘Call for Sites’ process. Sites submitted will be assessed as to whether they are suitable, available and achievable for housing or economic development uses (retail, leisure, cultural, office, warehousing etc). This could then lead to allocation for development in a new Local Plan in the next 2-3 years.

The deadline is 5pm Friday 24th July 2026.

As part of the preparation of a new Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) the Council is inviting potential development sites to be submitted through this ‘Call for Sites’ process. Sites submitted through the Call for Sites will be assessed through the Council’....

Just getting on with improving our environment.

A second clear-up on Monday in the Kings Gap area from the Roundabout towards the beach - doing our bit to improve our town gateway.
17 bags of weeds, twigs, sand and assorted rubbish from the kerbs and feature walls.
Complementing the great floral displays from HMIB this might encourage home owners and perhaps local businesses to follow the lead and keep their surrounds tidy and attractive.

BREAKING NEWS

The government has just ordered Wirral Council to begin preparing a new Local Plan in July — one of 39 councils forced into the fast-track process.

Under the new regulations, Wirral must have a new Local Plan in place in just over three years time, despite the current one being less than one year old. Failure to comply risks direct government intervention.

The scale of housing growth required under the government's housing need algorithm makes it almost inevitable that Wirral's new Local Plan will need to release *significant amounts of Green Belt land* to meet its housing targets.

Prepare for a flurry of major planning applications on countryside sites within the year.

Wow! What an amazing response from Wirral. It was standing room only at St Hildeburgh's in Hoylake today. Hundreds packed in to the church for the 1st community meeting to oppose the Peak Cluster CO2 Pipeline.

Great to hear so many community voices coming together as one. Also great to have cross party support from all the Local Councillors too.

Thanks to St Hildeburghs for hosting and well done to the organisers - an amazing achievement organising all that in less than a week.

What a community we have. WE CAN FIGHT THIS!

We have formally objected to planning application APP/25/01927 at Clavis, 96 Meols Drive.

The proposal involves extensive demolition and large extensions to the historic building to form six apartments, together with the construction of two new houses within the former garden, resulting in nine dwellings on a single plot within the Meols Drive Conservation Area.

We are objecting to this application as it constitutes inappropriate and harmful development that conflicts with the special character of the Conservation Area, as defined in the adopted Meols Drive Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan (2025). In particular, the proposals would result in harmful plot intensification, excessive scale on the golf course edge, and harm to the setting and integrity of the historic building.

Residents have started a public petition, which can be viewed and signed here:

The planning application can be viewed, and comments submitted, via the Council’s planning portal:
