We believe that writing can positively change lives. Our vision is that all children and young people in Sussex have space and time to write for pleasure.

We run writing workshops and events in youth clubs, schools, galleries, libraries and anywhere that inspires us. We publish children and young people’s work, host open mic nights and much more.

Interested in creating graphic novels? Aged 11-18 year olds can join us for a free workshop “Telling Stories through Graphic Novels” with author/illustrator SAM PRENTiCE-jONES on Wednesday 28 October. A half term workshop as part of Bfest Brighton BYC

Young people can create their own short story through storyboarding and text at this introduction workshop to graphic novels. Led by Sam Prentice-Jones, the Brighton-based author/illustrator of ARCANA- a tarot-inspired fantasy YA graphic novel series. Sam’s graphic novels tackle themes including friendship and families, q***r romance, rebellion and the magic of rewriting your own story. Whether you want to tell spooky stories about witches and fantasy, or tales closer to real life, come and express what you want to say and learn tips and tricks at starting a graphic novel with this professional creative plus Young Writers Collective mentors. All materials and snacks provided but feel free to bring along your favourite pens if you want to!

For the first time ever, Brighton Book Festival Brighton Book Festival is joining with forces with independent bookshops The Book Nook, Afrori Books, Little Green Pig, Brighton Youth Centre and the Brighton And Hove Libraries service to present a book festival dedicated to children, young people and families.

Craft, Storytime, Open Mic, Graphic Novel Workshop, a Draw OFF competition and lots more make this a festival for all ages! Join Little Green Pig and e/rinnyjames for a writing workshop and Open Mic for ages 7 to 11. All ages can come be part of the audience at the Open Mic. Expect poetry, jokes, short stories and more!

So come along to Jubilee Library on Saturday 24 October for a celebration of stories, writing and reading in all of its forms!

We have FREE spaces available NOW for 7 - 11yr olds at our creative writing after school club which meets on Mondays at Leaf Hall, Seaside Road.

If your child is in Yr 3 - Yr 6 and would like to have loads of creative fun writing stories, poems, comics and more, as well as enjoying artist-led workshops and free trips and visits - don’t delay, sign up today!

All are welcome to register - spaces will be prioritised for children receiving Free School Meals, those with SEND or who are Care Experienced.

Help us unlock double the donations this Christmas

It may be the middle of summer, but we're already planning something exciting for Christmas!

This December, Little Green Pig will be taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, where every donation could be doubled until we reach our £6,000 target.

To be in with a chance of securing this match funding, we need to find up to 10 generous supporters to pledge £150 or more by 28 August.

Introducing the newest member of our team…Welcome Tilda Barr, our Evaluation and Communications Intern.
Tilda is a Childhood and Youth Studies student at the University of Sussex University of Sussex She loves writing and is interested in how creativity can support young people. She hopes to work in the children’s charity sector and create spaces where young voices feel heard and valued. She enjoys yoga, sea swimming, and her favorite word is ‘curiosity’. We’re delighted to have Tilda supporting and shaping our impact measuring methods across our clubs and programmes for the coming months.

Happy National Writing Day! Everyone is invited to join in! Founded by the fantastic First Story First Story in 2017, the day inspires people of all ages and abilities to simply write for fun. Everyone is invited to grab pens, pencils or laptops and celebrate the power and pleasure of creative writing…something that at Little Green Pig we believe in so much!

For 2026, award-winning author, Little Green Pig Ambassador and First Story Ambassador Patrice Lawrence Patrice Lawrence invites everyone to “Write A Book By Its Cover” and use an existing book cover to inspire a new piece of writing.

Writers aged 11 to 18 in Sussex can sign up FREE to become part of Young Writers Collective. As well as lots of other benefits, members can book to take part in workshops such as our next event with Roy McFarlane on Thursday 25 June, 5pm Creating writing on the theme of “Who Am I?” Exploring voice, identity and belonging, to submit to be published in our Summer Anthology. Our creative volunteer mentors are brilliant at supporting children and young people to find their voice and share their stories with the world. So it’s always wonderful when we hear that volunteering with Little Green Pig has become a meaningful part of a mentor’s story too.
