Today our volunteers braved the heat for a shorter session and ventured back to the ponds to finish off last week’s work repairing the dead hedge and cutting back some of the brambles - but only a little, so as not to disturb any potential bird nests. 🌿🐦

If you would like to come along and help, please feel free to join us! We meet every Wednesday at 10am at the Rangers Hut.

What a glorious day for volunteering! ☀️

Today our volunteers were busy repairing a dead hedge and topping up the others around the site. These natural barriers play an important role in protecting the ponds from disturbance and helping wildlife thrive. 🌿🦆

We’re always looking for more helping hands, so if you have a little spare time and would like to get involved, we’d love to see you there!

📍 We meet every Wednesday at 10am at the Rangers Hut

☕ And of course, there’s always a tea break!

Yesterday our volunteer rangers braved the weather and, for the most part, managed to dodge the worst of it! We carried out some light path maintenance to improve access, while also taking time to share ideas and reflect on why we do what we do - all with a real sense of purpose.

Having dedicated volunteers supporting the Countryside Rangers is so important in helping us achieve our goals. Quite simply, we couldn’t do it without you amazing people, so thank you all so much 🥰

We’re always looking for more helping hands, so if you can spare some time, we’d love for you to join us. We meet every Wednesday from 10am until around 2pm, with a break in the middle - plus tea and biscuits provided!

A huge thank you to our fantastic volunteers yesterday, who were joined by a corporate group from Mace and Heathrow! Together, they achieved an incredible amount of work across the site. 👏

Tasks completed included:

🌿 Digging the new scrape a little deeper ready for the sand mix.
🌿 Driving in tree stakes around the Alder Buckthorns to help protect them.
🌿 Cutting back around the low-lying heathers
🌿 Building a brand new loggery - no easy task!

Well done to everyone involved. Without the support of groups like this, alongside our regular volunteers, this vital work simply wouldn’t be possible.

Interested in getting involved? Why not come along and join us!

Today our volunteer Rangers were joined by a fantastic team from UK Power Networks Services, and together they made a real difference 🌿

The group did an incredible job clearing encroaching scrub from an area that was in serious need of attention. After a well earned lunch break, we got stuck into preparing a small scrape, which we hope will develop into the perfect habitat for digger wasps, ground-nesting bees, and other important wildlife 🐝

We truly couldn’t achieve everything we do without the dedication of our volunteers and the support of corporate groups like this. That said, there’s still plenty to be done, and we’d love more helping hands to join us!

If you fancy getting involved, come along - we’re a friendly bunch. We always stop for lunch (often outdoors!) and make sure there’s a brew on ☕

Today, our amazing volunteers were back out on site, continuing the fantastic work from recent weeks 🌿 Carefully and methodically, the team worked around the heather, removing invasive species like gorse and broom that threaten to take over and crowd out our native heathers.

It’s inspiring to see such dedication in action - thank you to everyone who came along and gave their time and energy. Your efforts are helping to protect and restore these beautiful, biodiverse habitats for the whole community to enjoy 💚

We’re always looking for more friendly faces to join us! Whether you’re a regular volunteer or thinking of coming along for the first time, you’ll be warmly welcomed. It’s a great way to meet people, enjoy the outdoors, and make a real difference locally.

Why not come and give it a try? 🌱

Yesterday, our incredible volunteers carried on from last week’s efforts, carefully and surgically cutting around the heather to remove invasive species such as gorse and broom that outcompete this important plant.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for your amazing work and dedication. Without our volunteers, this simply wouldn’t be possible- and we could risk losing these beautiful, biodiverse habitats.

If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to have you join us! We’re a friendly group, and your help would be warmly welcomed.

Let’s protect our local habitat together 🌿

🌿 Midweek Conservation Success! 🌿

This Wednesday, our fantastic volunteer rangers were hard at work carefully cutting back bramble and gorse that had begun to encroach on and smother our precious heather (Calluna vulgaris). Without this vital management, the heather would eventually be outcompeted and lost over time.

To top it off, we were treated to some truly glorious weather - making a rewarding day even more enjoyable! ☀️

We couldn’t do this without our amazing volunteers. If you’d like to get involved and make a real difference, why not come along and join us?

🌿 A great day out on Hounslow Heath! 🌿

Today, the Hounslow Heath Volunteer Rangers did a fantastic job removing broom (Cytisus scoparius) to help improve and maintain this important habitat. By leaving some along the path edges, we’re creating natural hedging- protecting the habitat behind while making the landscape more visible.

💚 Want to get involved? We meet every Wednesday at 10am at the Rangers Hut- everyone is welcome!

🌿 Volunteer Rangers Update – Great Work This Week! 🌿

This Wednesday, our fantastic volunteer rangers did an amazing job clearing low-lying brambles, gorse, and broom from around the heather, helping to improve light levels and support healthy growth.
We also removed a huge number of wheelbarrow loads of mulch. This is especially important work following recent gorse cutting- if left, the mulch would compost down and add unwanted nutrients to the soil, affecting its pH and the delicate heathland balance. While detritivores naturally break down organic matter, in this case, intervention is key to maintaining the right conditions.

Thanks to a brilliant team effort, we removed the equivalent of two tipper loads- a fantastic achievement!

👏 A big thank you to all our volunteers. Your work is incredibly valuable and truly makes a difference.

Interested in joining us? You’d be very welcome!
