❤️ 😘🎈Happy Birthday to our wonderful bundle of Patterdale cuteness Aretha 🎂🐕💖

🐾 Aretha – 5 year old Patterdale Terrier looking for her forever home 🐾

📍Gatwick Kennels
❎ No other pets
❎ Not for children
✅ Terrier experience needed

Oh what a sweetheart Aretha is. It’s so sad her previous homing didn’t work out, but we’re certain her perfect forever family is out there waiting for her.

Aretha is full of character – a lively, curly-haired little Patterdale with a big personality. She can seem quite frantic in her kennel, but this is likely excitement and her strong desire for human company. The moment you step in to see her, she melts into affection, happily taking fuss and even giving kisses. She just loves being with her people.

Out on walks, Aretha is an absolute joy. She didn’t care one bit about torrential rain and is always ready for her next adventure! Once out in the woods or quieter areas, she settles beautifully and becomes much calmer. She loves to explore and sniff, making every walk an adventure.

She can be strong on the lead at times and does get very excited by wildlife – so you’ll need to be prepared for that terrier enthusiasm! When passing other dogs, she may like to let everyone know she’s there, but her behaviour has improved over time. With continued lead training, a stable routine, and calm, confident handling, she should continue to make great progress.

Aretha is beginning to respond to her name and commands, and in a loving home with clear guidance she will blossom. She needs a kind but confident leader in her life – someone experienced or willing to continue her training and provide structure.

She is incredibly cute when you meet her, bursting with affection and personality. In the right home, she will make a loyal, loving and entertaining companion.

Are you the person Aretha is waiting for? 💛
Please see her forum page to find out more about this special little girl and offer her the forever home she truly deserves.

Please join us in wishing beautiful Martha a very Happy 4th Birthday! 🎉🩷

Martha has been enjoying regular foster breaks with Natalie and her family, and every visit shows just how ready she is to find her forever home.

Yesterday, Martha celebrated turning 4 with her very own birthday party, filled with love, treats and plenty of fuss! 😁

“Martha is exceptionally good in the home and fits seamlessly into the household with no issues at all. Calm, friendly and affectionate, the only time her tail stops wagging is when she’s asleep 😁 She has clearly been trained at some point, she can do the usual like sit and give a paw, but she also sits and waits until told before eating her food and responds to “in your bed”.

One of her many endearing traits is that she believes she’s a lap dog! Be prepared for her to climb onto you for a cuddle, but Martha cuddles are truly the best 🥰🩷

In summary, Martha is an ideal companion for lovers of larger dogs. She is still a young girl, so she has plenty of energy, but she has outgrown the puppy phase and is calm and well-mannered. She’s a beautiful dog who has waited far too long for her forever home. I truly hope it’s just around the corner.”

Happy Birthday, Martha! Here's to finding the forever family you've been waiting for and we hope you get to spend your next birthday in a home of your own ♥️

🐾 SONNY…SAVED WITH JUST MINUTES TO SPARE🐾

Some dogs come to us with no time left. Sonny was one of them.

Sonny is only 10 months old and grew up in a home with his mum, seven children and cats. He’d never bitten, never harmed anyone…he was simply “too much” for the household.

His owner walked into the vets and asked for him to be put to sleep. When the vet refused, he said he’d go elsewhere.

We were called and given 15 minutes to decide whether we could take him. Fifteen minutes to save his life.

Thanks to the vet and two volunteers who dropped everything to transport him, Sonny made it safely into our care. He is now neutered, chipped, and undergoing vaccinations, settling at our Rescue Centre near Gatwick while he waits for the loving family he always deserved.

Sonny is a little unsure at the moment, but once he trusts you, he bonds beautifully. He just needed someone to give him a chance.

We saved Sonny…but we can only keep saving dogs like him with your help.
Every dog we take in is neutered, vaccinated, health checked and treated for any medical needs. This essential care is expensive, and our vet bills are rising fast.

If you can spare even £1, it truly makes a difference and helps us say yes to the next dog who needs us.

Thankyou as ever♥️

Sooty is still looking for his forever home. Please share to help him find it 💙

Age: 5

🐾 must be only pet home
🐾 no cats
🐾 older teenage children and upwards only

This is how a foster break went for Sooty

“My dogs were going on a little holiday with my husband so I jumped at the chance to bring Sooty home for a couple of nights.

Bit of a long video but he was too much of a good boy for it to be cut short. Please do watch how wonderful Sooty is 🥰🥰

Let me start by saying this lovely boy has exceeded my expectations. Sooty has been very polite and his loving side shone through while he was with me and has been the perfect houseguest.

Day one started off by going to the charity football match. He travels wonderfully in the car and he was soon making friends and attracting attention. He was such a good boy and was loving meeting new people. So perfectly behaved. He charmed the socks off a 10 year old who sat stroking him for a long time and Sooty was so relaxed. Then it was the turn of the ice cream man! Sooty sat looking up at the window as if he knew what was in there!

When we got to my house, he happily jumped out of the car and had a little sniff around the garden and we went indoors. He met my stepson and enjoyed a fuss from him too. Then it was bath time! He likes to play with the shower spray when it goes near the front of his body but was pretty easy to shower and now smells nice and fresh and clean!

He’s been very gentle, cuddly and very alert to where I am. He liked to be able to see me all the time. He followed me everywhere, even to the little girls room where he was ever so polite as he turned around and looked at the door and sat on my foot while he waited for me 🤣🤣.

There was a knock at the door and he didn’t bark and wasn’t at all worried about it.
Sooty was soon settled, snoring away on the sofa next to me.

He showed an interest in me eating but didn’t try and take anything and sat quietly watching me while I ate.

Sooty can get a little stressed in the kennel environment and can grab his harness and leads when getting him ready for a walk. It was so much easier doing it in a home environment. He still tried his luck with the harness but a firm ‘Sooty, no, sit’ worked and I was able to pop his harness and leads on and go off on our walk. He didn’t attempt to grab the leads once while we were out.
He was very keen to walk and we had taut leads for a lot of the walk but he wasn’t pulling and in part of the video you can see I was walking at a normal pace. I think it was mainly because he was in a new area that he’d not been to before. I tested him as much as I could, walked him over bridges in the woods, along side a motorway and industrial estate with lorry’s being loaded and on a the footpath over the motorway and he took it all in his stride like a true champ.

Day two saw us up quite early as he heard my stepson getting ready for work. He had slept on his bed with him half the night so was happy to see him in the morning. Then Sooty watched him through the door as he walked off and got in his car. Then breakfast time for Sooty.

I was working from home so got ready and Sooty chilled and slept next to me except when he asked to go out for a toilet break. Once I’d finished work he hovered around me while I made dinner. He was like my little shadow the whole time he was here and liked to know I was close by and was either by my side or watching me from a close distance all the time.
He did bark a little when the door knocked but soon settled. I put him in the living room while I chatted at the door for a few minutes and he just waited patiently for me to come back.

He watched me quietly while I had my dinner and didn’t try to take anything and didn’t get too close (he had already had his 🤣)
When my stepson came home from work, Sooty was happy to see him and gave him a lovely hello and they sat and had a cuddle. Stepson is firmly in love with Sooty 🥰🥰

The evening was mainly me and sooty cuddling on the sofa watching rubbish tv. He’s so affectionate and has to be touching you at all times, even if it was just a paw resting on me.

We went up to bed and Sooty made himself comfortable and was soon softly snoring away. He woke me up once in the night to let him outside and was fast asleep in no time when we went back upstairs.

We got up in the morning and we went for a walk. I wanted to challenge him a little so went out when I knew we would come across a few things, which ended up including an off lead dog running up to him, a digger and the dustmen. Sooty was paw perfect and didn’t react to any of it. The only time he jumped was when bin fell of the back of the dust cart, but in fairness, so did I! Haha. No lead grabbing on our walk but was a little excited when I was putting his harness on and grabbed it a couple times so I put it down and ignored him for a bit and then tried again and off we went. He stood perfectly when I took it off him after the walk.

We came back and he took up his position next to me again while I worked and even popped his head into a couple of Teams calls where he stole the show! Haha.

I did discover that the Hoover worries sooty and he hid from it. He didn’t bark, just hid behind the table but was interested in watching. The dishwasher, washing machine and any other household noises didn’t phase him at all.

All too soon it was time to take Sooty back because my dogs were on their way home. I’m sitting here writing this with my 2 girls snoring away next to me but still missing Sooty being here. He made a huge impact on me. He really is an amazing boy and anyone who homes him will not regret it and they have a best friend and a wonderful companion. I opened my home up to Sooty and I’m so pleased I did. He was faultless and nothing but loving, cuddly and respectful of his surroundings and didn’t attempt to chew anything. He didn’t even try to play with my dogs toys. And there wasn’t a single accident as he always asked when he wanted to go outside.

Sooty my darling. It’s been an absolute pleasure and privilege being able to spend time with you in a home environment and I’m missing you already!!”

Our dog of the month is Billy

Age 2

"It is no secret how much I love cuddly, funny, sensitive Billy boy with his big, expressive eyes.

I have been enjoying the pleasure of Billy's company on regular foster breaks recently, as he finds kennel life quite difficult.

I can tell you that Billy is sweet, loving, incredibly cuddly, funny, eager to please, a good listener, attentive, affectionate, quiet, pretty obedient and smart. I have left him for periods up to three and a half hours and he has been really good. He does sometimes try to slip out the door with me when I leave but once I have gone, he just chills out on my bed. He does not touch my belongings. The only things he ever destroys are some of his toys! He enjoys chewing on tennis balls and then ripping them up.

Billy can also be sensitive, worried, unconfident, unsure and sometimes frightened. He can struggle with trust. He worries what people will do to him or what they will make him do; that they may hurt him or take away the few things he has. As such, it is incredibly important that his new owner understands anxious dogs and their body language and will treat him with gentleness. Billy has been known to resource-guard so knowledge and sensitivity around that is a must. In saying that, It is very rare that I experience any problems with Billy in that regard now. He will drop his toys in my lap and eat next to me. This is the result of slow relationship-building and giving him confidence that I am someone who gives things to him instead of taking them away.

Billy is calm and completely quiet in the house.

He is a bit of a velcro dog; wanting lots of cuddles. He likes to climb all over me and and nudges my arm up to tell me to give him strokes. He has occasionally gone to my bedroom to chill out when I am working in another room now which is a good sign.

Billy walks very well on the lead; usually on a loose lead, with lots of sniffing. He can sometimes play with the lead - either because something has stressed him out so he holds the lead for emotional support or just when he wants a game. We are working on that.

Billy is usually polite with other dogs when we are out, even when they bark at him. However, if a dog makes him anxious or runs up to him when they are off-lead, he may get worried and tell them to go away.

Billy enjoys training (in a kind, force-free way only) and learning things and pleasing you and he picks up training behaviours really well. Recently he has been learning a hand-touch, as well as working on impulse control. He loves getting gentle praise.

Billy listens to you. He checks in with you. He (usually!) does as you ask.

He can sometimes jump up when wanting cuddles, reassurance or attention (work in progress)

If you are able to meet Billy slowly and give him your support, patience and sensitivity, I promise you will have the most loving, cuddly, sweet companion. He has so many wonderful qualities and is an absolute joy to live with.

Billy needs a quiet home with one or two people.

Please help beautiful, silly Billy boy."

🐾 Happy Volunteer Week to our incredible Rescue Remedies family 🐾

Every single thing we do as a rescue is powered by volunteers…people who give their time, their hearts, and their energy to dogs and cats who need them.

To our dog walkers, who show up in all weathers with patience, kindness, and treats.

To our cat cuddlers, who bring comfort and calm to the shyest little souls.

To our homing team, who work tirelessly to match each animal with the right home.

To our behind the scenes admin heroes, keeping the rescue running smoothly in ways most people never see.

To our fosterers, opening their homes and hearts to animals who need a safe place to land.

And to Lynne, whose compassion, grit, and refusal to give up on the “last chance” dogs has made all of this possible.

You are the reason lives are saved.
You are the reason tails wag again.
You are the reason this rescue exists.

Thank you…truly, for everything you give.♥️🐾
