Negotiations on the EU Child Sexual Abuse Regulation enter a critical phase, as the final text is discussed between the EU Parliament, Commission and Council. What is agreed now will determine the strength of the EU’s long-term framework for tackling online child sexual abuse and exploitation.

"How many n**e and sexual images of children should we allow to be captured through a child’s own device? Zero is the only acceptable answer," writes our Communications Director, Emma Hardy, in her latest article.

"Yet we are seeing children being exploited, manipulated, groomed, deceived and encouraged to share their own and other young people’s n**e and sexual imagery via their own devices. Not occasionally, not in isolated incidents, but on an industrial scale.

"On-device protections are a preventative remedy. It's an opportunity which must be seized. If Apple, Google and our politicians get this right, this endemic, insidious threat to our children could be headed off – these outrageous crimes could begin to be curtailed – and we could start bringing these numbers down to where they belong: Zero."
