The Battle Memorial Hall Trustees are aware that there has been some discussion shared on social media regarding the Hall's animal policy. We are sorry if this has caused confusion and we would like to take this opportunity to clarify the Hall's position on this important aspect of community life.
As Battle Memorial Hall is a multi-use community space accommodating a wide range of activities and users, the Trustees formally adopted a general animal policy; this was integrated into the Hirers Agreement in January 2026, taking effect on April 1, 2026.
The policy states that for any public event, only legally recognised assistance dogs - such as guide dogs, hearing dogs, and trained medical alert dogs - are welcome. This is in alignment with the guidance under the Equality Act 2010 and ensures that individuals with disabilities face no barriers when using the Hall's facilities. For private events, the policy states that hirers may seek advance permission from the trustees to admit other dogs.
We hope that this information clears up any misunderstanding.
