🌍 World Environment Day – 5 June 🌱

This World Environment Day, we’re celebrating how your local Merthyr library helps support a more sustainable community.

Using the library is already a greener choice — borrowing instead of buying, sharing resources, and using free digital services all help reduce waste. But did you know our libraries also offer practical ways to support the environment?

♻️ Available at Merthyr Libraries:
School uniform swap (Merthyr Central Library)
Gardening Club (Merthyr Central Library)
Reusable nappies
Biodegradable and reusable period wear
Small electrical recycling
Battery recycling bags
Food waste bags

We’re also proud to say that Merthyr Library is now an official Litter Hub, helping keep our local area clean and cared for.

Merthyr Tydfil Public Libraries are excited to launch the Adult Reading Challenge 2026!
Whether you’re an avid reader or just getting back into books, this is a great way to discover something new, have fun, and challenge yourself 📖
🔎 How it works:
✅ Sign up at your local library and collect your challenge card
✅ Read books that match the different categories
✅ Collect stamps as you go
✅ Read 12 books to complete the challenge and earn a reward 🎉
📚 Categories include:

A Welsh author

A book adapted into film or TV
A biography or autobiography
