On Thursday morning this week, we were honoured to host a management team from Lidl stores across Scotland, from Orkney down to Stirling.
They brought that morning's pick up, put away perishable goods for the farm where we send any items no longer able to be out on the shelves, unpacked and help put away the stock and bundled up all the recycling. We were able to give them a tour of our premises and explain what we do on a day to day basis, both in the pantry and with our free advice and information service. They were able to speak to some of our members who were in to use the pantry that day and also converse with some of our volunteers.
In thanking us at the end of the visit they said they had been blown away by what we offer. They thought that their visit had been to speak mainly about "food" but they said that food is only the tip of the iceberg. They had witnessed that ICP provides a lifeline, that we combat social isolation and loneliness, we give our members dignity.
What we as a team at ICP took away is that we are "bringing the community together" and that we are, indeed, paying it forward.
