This week is National Stalking Awareness Week 2026

Stalking can happen to anyone. It may involve persistent unwanted contact, following, surveillance, online monitoring, or behaviour that causes fear or distress. These actions are serious and can deeply affect a person’s confidence, wellbeing, and sense of safety.

If this is happening to you or someone you know, please remember: help is available and you are not alone. No one should feel frightened or unsafe in their daily life.

Stalking is a crime. Report concerns by calling 101, or 999 if you are in immediate danger.

Specialist support and confidential advice is available through:

Launch of Domestic Abuse Information Booklets

Led by Soroptimist International Wales South and created in partnership with specialist domestic abuse services, survivor voices and community organisations, these booklets, in English and Welsh, provide clear, practical guidance, options and sources of support for women experiencing abuse — whether they are seeking help or planning to leave safely.
We are proud to share this vital resource, developed to ensure that women have access to trusted information when they may need it most.
Every woman has the right to feel safe, informed and supported.
📘 The booklets are free to access and share:

10 Years of IRIS

IRIS (Identification and Referral to Improve Safety) is a specialist domestic abuse programme embedded within primary care. It supports GPs and practice teams to identify patients affected by domestic abuse and refer them directly to expert, independent support.

Funded by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Safer Merthyr Tydfil and RCT Domestic Abuse Services work in partnership to support patients across the region.

Over the past decade, IRIS has strengthened responses within healthcare settings, improved access to life-changing support, and ensured that survivors are seen, heard, and supported safely.

To date, over 2,000 patients have been referred to IRIS.

Patients tell us they feel safer, empowered, more positive about their futures and experience improved physical health and wellbeing because of our support.

A huge thank you to Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, our partners, clinicians, and specialist advocates who have made this impact possible.

On White Ribbon Day, the Merthyr Tydfil community came together to pledge their support and stand united against male violence against women and girls.

A massive thank you to all the football teams, coaches, parents, families and staff who braved the cold to make this a truly powerful and successful event. Thanks also to Penydarren Boys & Girls Club for hosting the event and Heolgerrig Red Lions CFC for support throughout. Your commitment helps create a safer community for everyone.
