🗣️ WHAT YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE TAUGHT US 💭

At SNAP YOUTH, we believe young people should have a real voice – not just be asked what they think after all the decisions have already been made.

Young people have taught us that:

👂 Listening really matters
💡 Young people have brilliant ideas
🗣️ They have strong opinions when they’re actually asked
🙌 Having a voice can build confidence
🤝 Young people can work together to make things happen
🌱 Given the opportunity, they can step into planning, decision-making and leadership

We don’t expect young people to have all the answers – and adults don’t either!

Our job is to create opportunities for young people to have a say, try things out, shape what happens and learn along the way. 💙

Because youth work shouldn’t just be something done to young people. It should be something shaped with them.

💙 SNAP YOUTH MAKES A DIFFERENCE 💙

Sometimes the difference isn’t something huge or obvious.

It might be a young person having the confidence to join in. 🙌
Trying something they’ve never done before. 🎨
Speaking up and knowing someone will listen. 🗣️
Learning from a mistake instead of giving up. 💪
Making a new friend. 🤝
Having somewhere they feel comfortable, welcome and able to be themselves.

That’s what youth work is about.

Creating opportunities, building relationships, listening to young people and helping them learn, develop, explore and achieve – one conversation, one activity and one small step at a time.

SNAP YOUTH makes a difference. And sometimes the small things make the biggest difference. 🌟

🎨 Getting creative at SNAP YOUTH is about much more than colouring sheets and sticking and gluing.

It’s about designing something, learning how to do it, listening to advice, having a go and not being afraid to make a mistake. 💡🛠️

Sometimes things don’t work first time. Sometimes the idea in your head doesn’t quite turn out the way you expected. That’s OK! 🙌

It’s about trying again, changing the plan, learning from what happened and being able to look at the finished piece and think, “I made that.” 👏

Because creativity isn’t just about the finished product – it’s about learning, problem-solving, building confidence and having a go. 🌟

💙 FUNDRAISING FOR SNAP YOUTH 💙

Behind the scenes at SNAP YOUTH, there’s a team of people who put a huge amount of time, thought and passion into fundraising.

It’s not an easy job! Finding the right funds, researching opportunities, writing applications and telling our story takes time, persistence and a real belief in what we’re trying to achieve. 🔎✍️💪

We’re also incredibly grateful to our local community for getting behind us and cheering us on. Over the years, some absolutely fabulous people have taken on their own fundraising challenges to raise money for SNAP YOUTH — and it really does make a difference! 🙌

Every penny donated to SNAP YOUTH goes straight back into the project, helping us provide activities, groups, trips and opportunities for local young people. 🎨⚽🎨🚌

We know that not every young person or family can afford to pay for activities all of the time. We want young people to have the chance to get involved, regardless of their circumstances, so we do our best to make sure those who need a little extra support don’t miss out. 💙

Fancy raising money for SNAP YOUTH? 🎉

Whether you have a big fundraising idea or something simple and fun, we’d love to hear from you. We can support you with information, ideas and the materials you need to get started.

Your fundraising can help a local young person say “yes” to an opportunity they might otherwise have missed. 🙌

🎥 What do we actually get up to at SNAP YOUTH?

Yes, there’s plenty of fun, games and laughter… but there’s usually a bit more going on underneath! 👀

We’re all about creating opportunities for young people to learn, develop, explore and discover what they’re capable of — without it feeling like a lesson.

Recently, we dug out an old favourite… BUTTERBALL! 🏐

And let me tell you… this activity brings out a serious competitive streak! 😂

After several attempts — and a fair amount of disappointment when that ball hits the floor and the challenge has to start all over again — something interesting starts to happen.

Young people realise that doing the same thing isn’t working. They need to try a different strategy.

They start to:
🗣️ Talk to each other
👂 Listen to each other
💡 Share ideas and advice
🙋 Step up and take on leadership
👏 Encourage one another
🤝 Support each other
🔄 Adapt when something doesn’t work

And perhaps one of the hardest lessons of all… how to deal with things going wrong and have another go.

Because sometimes youth work looks like a game.

But underneath the game, young people are building confidence, communication, teamwork, resilience and leadership skills — often without even realising it.

That’s what we mean by having fun with a purpose. 💙

⏸️ SNAP YOUTH IS HAVING A PAUSE ⏸️

Today marks the end of our current youth work sessions, clubs and groups.

But don’t worry… this isn’t goodbye! 👋

SNAP YOUTH isn’t going anywhere. 💙 We’re taking a little pause while we get busy behind the scenes – planning, developing and preparing for a new start. 🛠️💡

We’ve got our new youth hub, lots of ideas and plenty to think about as we look at what comes next and how we can continue to provide youth work that responds to what young people want and need.

We know a pause might be disappointing, but we’re excited about the next chapter and want to take the time to get it right. 🌱

And we’ll need your support along the way! 🙌 Follow us, share our posts, tell people about SNAP YOUTH and keep an eye out for what’s coming next.

We’re pressing pause – not stopping. ⏸️➡️▶️

💙 A HUGE thank you to Sutton-in-Ashfield! 💙

SNAP YOUTH is so very grateful to Sutton-in-Ashfield for awarding us an incredible £10,000 grant towards our heating system! 🙌

Our lovely old Victorian building has plenty of character… but it’s also drafty and VERY cold in the winter! 🥶

Being able to flick a switch and have lovely, instant heat will make such a difference to our young people, our staff and everyone who uses the building. 🔥

We’re incredibly grateful to ASDA for supporting community organisations like SNAP YOUTH and helping make a real, practical difference locally. A massive thank you too to the people behind the community grants — the teams who listen, support and make these opportunities possible. ❤️

This isn’t just about heating a building. It’s about helping us create a warm, welcoming space where young people can feel comfortable, belong and get involved. 🏠✨

Thank you, ASDA! 💙

🌿 RELAXED YOUTH | WEDNESDAYS 3–4.30PM 🌿

Not every young person enjoys a noisy, busy youth club — and that’s absolutely okay. 💙

That’s why we created Relaxed Youth: an alternative space for young people who find busy sessions a bit overwhelming and prefer a quieter, more relaxed environment with less stimulation.

Our youth workers meet young people at Frederick Gent School reception at 3pm and then head together to the SNAP YOUTH HUB on High Street, South Normanton. 📍

Relaxed Youth is a chance to chat, play, create, chill and spend time with others without the noise and busyness of a larger youth club session. 🎨🎲💬

If you know a young person who might benefit from this kind of group, please encourage them or their parent/carer to get in touch. We can have a chat, answer any questions and help them decide whether Relaxed Youth feels like the right group for them. 😊

Sometimes, having the right environment can make all the difference. 💙

SNAP YOUTH workers are always thinking of different ways to support young people to think about and learn practical life skills.

Shopping on a budget, understanding what things cost and knowing the price of everyday staple foods has always sparked plenty of interest – and some interesting conversations! 🛒💷

And, of course, it wouldn’t be SNAP YOUTH without a cuppa and a snack available to help with the thinking process! ☕🍪

Because sometimes the best conversations happen when you’re simply sitting around a table, having a brew, grabbing a snack and figuring things out together.

Tuesday at the SNAP YOUTH HUB | 5–7pm 🎬

Last week was all about chatting, sharing and having a go.

We talked about hobbies, interests, school and friendships, ate chips 🍟, made films, took on challenges, played games and shared our thoughts, views and opinions.

Lots of talking. Lots of listening. Lots of learning, thinking and considering different ideas.

Come along tonight and join in, get involved or just have a chat. 🙌
