A little library humour for your Friday! 📚🐔🐸
We hope it raises a smile — even if you have to read it twice!

A chicken entered a library and said, “Book, book, book?”

The Librarian stared at the chicken, who repeated, “Book, book, book?”

Curious, the Librarian took a book bag and selected a book, put it in the bag, and laid the bag down on the counter. The chicken took the bag and left the library.

The next day, the chicken returned to the library with the book bag and the book. “Book, book, book?” said the chicken, and the Librarian replaced the book with a new one. The chicken took the bag and left. This continued for a few days and the Librarian could have sworn the chicken was becoming more and more agitated. Finally, the Librarian decided to follow the chicken to see the spectacle of a chicken reading a book.

The chicken took the bag to a lovely little pond and took out the book and placed it in front of her. At that moment, a frog emerged from the pond and hopped to the chicken.

“Reddit,” said the frog. 🐸

📚 When your library book matches your bedroom décor… AGAIN!
Honestly, I promise I didn’t choose Sun at Midnight by Rosie Thomas to match my colour scheme! 😂
I actually picked it because it’s set in Antarctica, which seemed rather appealing as the evenings grow colder. ❄️
But now I’m beginning to wonder whether my subconscious is doing my interior design shopping for me…
Tell me I’m not the only one who does this! Do you ever find yourself choosing books that match your home, your mood or even the season? 💙

🍂🌾 Read & Rhyme this week – two scarecrow stories! 📚🎶
Bring your pre-school and primary-aged children along to Biddenden Community Library in All Saints Church, High St, TN27 8AJ on:
📅 Thursday 15th October
📅 Saturday 17th October
⏰ Both sessions start at 10.15am.
This week we’ll be sharing two autumnal stories: Timmy the Timid Scarecrow by Lola Usupova and The Lonely Scarecrow by Tom Preston. 🌾🍂
Timmy has a big job to do, but there’s just one problem – he’s terrified of birds! 🐦😱 And while another scarecrow might look frightening, all he really wants is a friend. 💛
Together, these stories explore facing our fears, finding courage and discovering that things – and people – aren’t always quite as they seem.
As always, we’ll enjoy stories, songs, finger rhymes, puppets and percussion instruments, followed by a simple craft activity and refreshments. ✂️🎶🪇
✨ Read & Rhyme is completely FREE, and everyone is welcome!
We’d love to see you there! 💙📚

The Biddenden Christmas Tree Festival is gearing up for another festive season, and bookings are already more than halfway full!
Whether you’re part of a local club, business or organisation, or simply fancy a fun family project, this is a wonderful opportunity to get creative, spread some Christmas cheer and be part of a much-loved village event.
For just £35, you can enter your own tree into the competition. Go traditional, think quirky or let your imagination run wild with unusual decorations, imaginative themes and props. The more creative, the better!
You’ll need to be available on Wednesday 2 or Thursday 3 December to decorate and light up your tree. An electrical point is provided, and once the competition is over, your tree is yours to take home, ready for Christmas!

We’re looking forward to seeing the village come alive with festive creativity and supporting another fantastic community event. 🎄

Looking back at the "Flair Festival" held in my little village of Biddenden in Kent, last month.

Flair is an ambitious celebration of literature and the arts and this year's programme included something for everyone. Shown here are two of the events organised for younger readers.

Helen Fairley gave an inspiring introduction to her love of reading

Ed Bingham told us about The Kind Wasp, and how this important insect is often misunderstood.

This will be the first of a series of posts about Flair - come back for more!

📚 Library Book Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Our first book review in a little while comes from S Woodley, a Biddenden Community Library member, who was completely enchanted by The Night Circus.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“A book full of magic, real magic – not merely illusions. Suspend belief and, like me, you should delight in all the impossible things that happen in this book. A lovely story, ultimately a romance, and fabulous characters I can completely believe exist.”

It sounds like The Night Circus is one of those books where the best thing you can do is simply step inside and believe in the impossible.

Thank you to S Woodley for sharing such an enthusiastic review. ❤️

Have you read a book you loved recently? We’d love to hear what you thought! Pick up a review form in the library and share your thoughts — you might inspire someone else’s next great read.

🎃🥣 Read & Rhyme is looking forward to Halloween! 📚🎶

Bring your pre-school and primary-aged children along to Biddenden Community Library in All Saints Church, High St, TN27 8AJ on:

📅 Thursday 8th October
📅 Saturday 10th October

⏰ Both sessions start at 10.15am.

This week we’re getting into the autumn spirit with the much-loved Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper. 🎃🐱🐥🐿️

Deep in the woods, Cat, Duck and Squirrel are busy making pumpkin soup in their cosy old cabin. But as they discover, making soup together is about much more than pumpkins – it’s about friendship, sharing and learning to work together. 🥣💛

This beautifully rhythmic story is celebrating its 25th anniversary and is a perfect autumn read as Halloween approaches! 🎃🍂
