πŸ’‘ Volunteer Spotlight πŸ’‘

This we want to celebrate our Community Ambassadors at Active Humber.

Henry has been a young volunteer at Barton Inclusive Football Club, Teeny Tots, for over 2 years.

One of the most enjoyable parts about volunteering Henry says is because it not only makes himself happy but other people too. It also allows him to see the change in people when they achieve their goals!

Henry joined Little Victories Cerebral Palsy Football to play a sport that was adaptive to his needs. He loves being part of the team and wants to promote inclusive football so that more children with disabilities can join, make friends, and enjoy the sport.

His top 3 words for volunteering are:
πŸ’‘ Fun
πŸ’‘ Happy
πŸ’‘ Joyful

Well done Henry!! πŸ‘

Lend a hand and make a difference!

Why not have a go at volunteering and lend a hand locally in the UK’s biggest celebration of community, The Big Help Out & The Big Lunch's 'Big Do'.

Big or small, what you do is up to you – a BBQ with the neighbours, a local litter pick or helping a good cause for the day – we can all do something!

The Big Help Out

The Big Lunch and The Big Help Out are teaming up on 5-8 June for a weekend of friendship, food, fun and action – and everyone’s invited!

Volunteering has provided many opportunities for Steph from starting out as a Welfare officer to moving into coaching and now to her role as a project lead at Little Victories.

Her top 3 words for volunteering are:

Join our Sport Welfare Officer Mary this Friday 5th June at 7pm for a relaxed, face-to-face safeguarding workshop designed specifically for local sports clubs.

These informal sessions create space for honest conversation about the real-life safeguarding situations clubs face. Rather than focusing on policy alone, we’ll explore practical scenarios together, helping you build confidence in how to respond, who to involve, and what good safeguarding looks like in everyday club life.

This workshop is ideal for Club Welfare Officers, coaches, committee members, volunteers and anyone with a role in creating a safe, positive environment for children, young people and adults in sport.

Venue: Hull Wyke ARLFC, The Clubhouse Bricknell Playing Fields, Cropton Road, Hull, HU5 4LN

Booking required to join the free session. Reserve your place here: https://zurl.co/5FHPk

Your invited! πŸ‘€

Join the next Sport Welfare Officer webinar on Wednesday 10th June 2026, 2.00pm.

We warmly invite you to join the APNO for a one hour online webinar to hear more about the Sport Welfare Officer (SWO) Network - the journey so far, the impact being made, and the learning emerging from the programme.

Established in 2023, the SWO network is a team of professionals working across England and across sport. Sport Welfare Officers are based within local 42 Active Partnerships, with the programme led nationally by the Active Partnership National Organisation (APNO).

The network works collaboratively with National Governing Bodies to complement and strengthen existing support available to clubs. The Sport Welfare Officers provide advice and guidance, training, support, and opportunities for clubs and organisations to connect locally to share learning and best practice.

Alongside delivery, a national evaluation is being led by Ecorys UK and the webinar will feature the findings of the evaluation to date including the progress, challenges, and opportunities emerging through the work.

During this webinar, we will explore:

πŸ‘‰ The role and purpose of the Sport Welfare Officer Network
πŸ‘‰ How the network is supporting different sports and communities
πŸ‘‰ The ways the network is helping connect local and national systems
πŸ‘‰ Key outcomes, impact, and learning from the programme so far
πŸ‘‰ How the work is helping shift local clubs towards a culture of welfare and wellbeing

The webinar is open to anyone working or volunteering in sport who would like to learn more about the network and how we’re working together towards safer, more supportive sporting environments.

We would be delighted if you could join us!
