It’s National Volunteers’ Week 🩵

At ARFID Awareness UK we are incredibly grateful for every single person who gives their time, energy, and passion to support our mission. Your dedication helps us raise awareness, improve understanding, and ensure that those affected by ARFID feel seen, heard, and supported.

A message from James, our Chair of Trustees:“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our volunteers. Your commitment and compassion are at the very core of what we do. Whether you are sharing your experiences, supporting others, or helping us grow as an organisation, your contributions make a real and lasting difference for the ARFID community. We are deeply appreciative of everything you do.”

A message from Andrew, our CEO:“I want to personally thank each of our volunteers for the vital role you play in driving our mission forward. Your lived experiences, insights, and dedication are invaluable. I am especially excited to continue developing our Experts by Experience group, which will place volunteers with lived experience of ARFID at the forefront of our work. Together we can create greater awareness, foster understanding, and make meaningful change.”

To all our volunteers, thank you! We couldn’t do this without you.

Currently on the train home from Edinburgh after representing ARFID Awareness UK alongside Alfie’s spectrum navigating Autism and ARFID together.

All your comments on my post yesterday were heard today, so thank you all.

Today highlighted the importance of lived experience voices, so please share your stories and experiences as the more we speak up the better the future will be.

We’re looking for one person from Derbyshire or the surrounding area to represent our organisation and take part in an upcoming ARFID roundtable being run by First Steps ED.

The roundtable will bring together service users, parents and carers from across the country to discuss what needs to improve in ARFID care, from diagnosis and waiting times to the support available once people are in the system. The findings will contribute to a joint report being published on ARFID Awareness Day 2026.

We would particularly welcome:
👉 A service user with lived experience of ARFID
👉 A parent or carer of someone with ARFID

The roundtable will take place in person in Derby in mid-June, although a virtual option may be available if travel is difficult.

If you are interested in representing us and sharing your experiences to help shape future conversations around ARFID care, please get in touch with Jaimie via email: [email protected]

📣 Adults with ARFID wanted for a focus group opportunity

Researchers from University College London (UCL) are looking for up to 7 adults with lived experience of ARFID to take part in a one-hour focus group next Friday evening (15th May)

The project is aiming to develop a guided self-help intervention for adults with ARFID, and the researchers are keen to ensure that their recruitment materials are engaging, accessible, and sensitive to the experiences of the ARFID community.

They are looking for adults with lived experience who would be willing to share their thoughts and feedback on draft materials in a supportive discussion setting. Accessibility is important to the team, and they are open to different ways of gathering feedback where needed.

The researchers will be making a donation to ARFID Awareness UK in recognition of the group’s support.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact our CEO at [email protected] or 07857793885
