The next Fabled Session is Wednesday 24 June, 8pm to 10pm, at Highfield Community Centre.

The town is still growing. Across the last few sessions a fictional place has been built up table by table: its map, the groups that run it, the people who live there. Some of it was made together, some of it by people who came in, sat down, and worked on their own world entirely. Both built the room.

This one runs the same way. Add to the town or bring your own thing. The cards on each table let you set whether you want to talk or focus, so you can do either without having to explain yourself.

Seated and pre-booked, £10 in advance, capacity 12. No experience needed, no commitment, each session stands on its own.

Wednesday 24 June, 8pm to 10pm. Book at fabledsessions.fabledroles.com

The reason you have not made space for yourself might genuinely not be down to you.

Kids who need more attention than expected. A caring role that does not stop. A job that follows you home.

These are not excuses. They are real shapes that real time gets forced into.

The question worth sitting with: is any part of this actually yours to change, or does it just feel like it should be?

If no one is allowing you to do your thing, the logic follows: maybe you are not supposed to. Maybe you are not valuable enough to have your own life.

That conclusion arrives quietly. Most people never notice it was a conclusion at all.

The kettle turned off. Coffee granules suffused the water with that rich brown colour. The spoon tapped the edge of the mug.
Thirty seconds, maybe. Just mine.
Then two sets of eyes appeared over the baby gate.
"I! WANT!"
The interruptions were supposed to be temporary.

Something I've been thinking about with the room layout.

Each table has a different starting point. One for the map, one for the people who populate it, one for the group if people want to work together.

The idea is that you don't have to decide what kind of evening you're having before you arrive.
You just sit down somewhere and see what happens.

Someone sketching a character.
Someone writing their backstory.
Both at the same table, both doing their own thing.
That's pretty much what Fabled Sessions is.

Something I've noticed across the first two Try Nights:
The hesitation is almost always there at the start.

By the end, people are still at the table.

There are a few seats left for tonight if you've been sitting on it.

Try Night is tomorrow. 8pm. Highfield Community Centre, Hemel Hempstead.
A few seats still open.
You sit down, there's something on the table, and you go from there.
No introductions.
No obligation to talk.
Cards on the table tell the room what kind of presence you want to be... so you never have to manage that yourself.
This one's building a fictional town. Map, factions, characters.
No experience needed. Most people come alone.

Most social things ask you to show up ready.
Ready to introduce yourself. Ready to know someone. Ready to perform like you're having a good time.
Try Night doesn't work like that.
You come in, sit down, and there's something on the table to do. There are cards that signal whether you want to chat or just focus — so you never have to manage that yourself. Nobody asks how you're finding it. Nobody expects you back.
This one, we're building a fictional town together. Map, factions, characters. You can make something or just watch it take shape. Either is fine.
Wednesday 6th May. 8pm. Highfield Community Centre, Hemel Hempstead. £10.
Most people come alone. Link in comments.
