Hi everyone! this week we would like to introduce Stuart:

“I truly love using up some of my spare time to help others and put vital skills into action. Volunteering in this way has helped me feel much more connected to my local community—and I’ve even made some great new friends along the way. I’m looking forward to continuing to support and make a difference where I can!”

Good morning everyone. Today we’d like to introduce Chloe who has been with the team 1.5 years.

“I absolutely love working for the NHS, I worked in eye theatres at Southampton General Hospital 6 years ago and now I really enjoy being a Community First Responder. I love the medical side of it but also meeting new patients and their families. I love that I can volunteer around my family life and also teach others life-saving skills at local events”.

This week we would like to introduce Claire who is our scheme coordinator and has been a CFR for 7 years.
“I’ve always had a passion for first aid and so decided to become a CFR to aid any future career prospects and because I wanted to help within the local community.
Helping patients that need me is massively rewarding, as well as caring for the families of our patients too.
I’ve also helped teach CPR in schools, scouting groups and to local community groups. An important skill to pass on to the next generation of responders!”

Last week was our first instalment of ‘Meet the Team’.
This week we’d like to introduce Lynne.
Lynne has been a community first responder for just over 3 years and became a responder after working for the NHS for the last 20 years and wanted to be able to help her local community and give something back. Lynne says:
“Being first on scene to a medical emergency could mean I could save that person’s life. Knowing I can use my skills to be able to do this prior to an ambulance arriving is extremely rewarding.
I love being able to go to the local schools and teach CPR to the next generation of life savers”.

Did you know that there are 8 responders in the team?
We thought we’d introduce you to them with one each week, starting with Ivan who’s been a CFR for 8 years.
He was a first aider at work before that and wanted to do more and has now helped hundreds of patients aged from just 12 days to 102 years young.
The skills learned have also meant he’s been able to train most of the staff in his company on CPR and the use of a defibrillator.

Did you know that our team of 8 responders are part of a team of 765 across the region?!
All give up their spare time to help others.

Last month, our 765 volunteer Co-Responders and Community First Responders attended 2702 incidents and clocked up over 18,000 hours on call between them, this is a fantastic achievement from them all and we are really proud of all of the fantastic contribution that they continue to give.

This wouldn't be possible without the fantastic support and donations received from the public. Did you know it can cost around £310 a year just to keep a volunteer responder on the road and that is before taking into account the use of the all important life saving kit that they carry.

We're really proud of all of our teams and if you would like to support them and the work they do, then please take a look at our website for information on how to donate https://scascharity.org.uk/donate/
