Handmade Parade CIC creates bold, colourful events through a unique coming-together of professional parade artists and community participation. Since the first annual parade in Hebden Bridge in 2008, we've generated a riot of stunning procession and pageant art, including giant puppets, stilt walkers, animatronics, a samba band, a parade band, masks, costumes and lanterns.

Awww, check out these lovely photos from our origins in 2008. We’ve just realised that makes us 18yrs old, aka an ACTUAL ADULT. When do we start to grow up?😂

I suppose we’re only ever going to be as sensible as our parents, and they remain utterly daft. Gorgeous, crazily talented, inspirational people, but very, very silly. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Huge thanks to Andrew, Kathy, Jude, Kerith, Fran, Alison, Jonny, Mitch and many others who were instrumental in getting this show on the road and helping to wrangle it into the glorious beast it is now. Go us!🎉❤️

TODAY, Thursday 10th September, we are hosting an open community consultation in St Georges Square, central Hebden Bridge, from 1-4pm. Come meet us and share your thoughts and ideas, please!

We’re looking ahead and planning next year. If we find the funds, we’d love to make a Hebden Bridge Summer Parade happen in 2027. You can make a big difference by sharing your thoughts with us.

Whether you are a local resident, part of a community group, a business owner, or an enthusiastic spectator, your voice matters. We invite you to share your ideas, feedback, and creative comments to make our next parade the most spectacular and inclusive one yet.

· We would love to hear what stories or visual themes we should bring to life on the streets.

· How can we better represent or involve local groups?

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic intern to join our friendly and dynamic team. This hands-on role is perfect for someone who is eager to learn new skills; making large scale puppets and lanterns, developing as a community artist, joining in puppeteering, and willing to muck in as general crew on our exciting outdoor events.

There is one position available to an applicant living in Calderdale.

This is a paid opportunity.

Pay: £12.71/hour

Term: 300 hours from September 2026 – March 2027

Many thanks to Nigel Plant for sharing these gorgeous photos from Happy Valley Pride Decade Parade. It’s especially lovely to see the new artworks created by different teams.

The Gardener and Otter were made in a masterclass with Andrew Kim of Thingumajig Theatre - an international team of artists have worked their socks off to create these two beauties in such a short time frame. They were a huge hit with the audience, well done to all involved!

Also making a debut appearance was our David Hoyle inspired character, created by a brilliant team of volunteers from Happy Valley Pride - it brought so much joy to the parade, if ever a puppet was made for strutting, it was this one!😂

Thanks so much to the many teams and individuals who worked with us to make the parade such an inclusive, fun day out. Families, community groups, stewards, volunteers, everyone at Happy Valley Pride - You’re all MARVELLOUS ❤️🌈

How good were Drum Machine yesterday in the Happy Valley Pride Parade?! Great to hear them back out on the streets of Hebden Bridge, their unique sound always brings such fantastic energy to a parade.

Would you like to join them? You’re in luck! They’re getting ready to start a new training course in September - An intro course that leads to a place where you could be opening the main stage at some of the biggest festivals in the uk and parading through the streets in the name of PRIDE…….
