Handmade Parade CIC creates bold, colourful events through a unique coming-together of professional parade artists and community participation. Since the first annual parade in Hebden Bridge in 2008, we've generated a riot of stunning procession and pageant art, including giant puppets, stilt walkers, animatronics, a samba band, a parade band, masks, costumes and lanterns.

INTERN OPPORTUNITY - please share with anyone suitable, thank you!

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic intern to join our friendly and dynamic team. This hands-on role is perfect for someone who is eager to learn new skills; making large scale puppets and lanterns, developing as a community artist, joining in puppeteering, and willing to muck in as general crew on our exciting outdoor events.

There is one position available to an applicant living in Calderdale.

This is a paid opportunity.

Pay: £12.71/hour

Term: 300 hours from September 2026 – March 2027

Many thanks to Nigel Plant for sharing these gorgeous photos from Happy Valley Pride Decade Parade. It’s especially lovely to see the new artworks created by different teams.

The Gardener and Otter were made in a masterclass with Andrew Kim of Thingumajig Theatre - an international team of artists have worked their socks off to create these two beauties in such a short time frame. They were a huge hit with the audience, well done to all involved!

Also making a debut appearance was our David Hoyle inspired character, created by a brilliant team of volunteers from Happy Valley Pride - it brought so much joy to the parade, if ever a puppet was made for strutting, it was this one!😂

Thanks so much to the many teams and individuals who worked with us to make the parade such an inclusive, fun day out. Families, community groups, stewards, volunteers, everyone at Happy Valley Pride - You’re all MARVELLOUS ❤️🌈

How good were Drum Machine yesterday in the Happy Valley Pride Parade?! Great to hear them back out on the streets of Hebden Bridge, their unique sound always brings such fantastic energy to a parade.

Would you like to join them? You’re in luck! They’re getting ready to start a new training course in September - An intro course that leads to a place where you could be opening the main stage at some of the biggest festivals in the uk and parading through the streets in the name of PRIDE…….

🎉 TOMORROW - The Decade Parade.

For years our community has been asking us for a parade, and at long last, to celebrate our 10th anniversary - and YOU, here it is!

Working alongside Parade superstars Handmade Productions we are thrilled to present the first ever Freedom Parade - placards, puppets, positivity and pride.

The parade is totally free to attend and open to everyone of all ages. It’s an opportunity to be part of, to celebrate and support the amazing LGBTQIA+ community in our valley and we need your support NOW, more than ever. Our first ever parade is open to all members of the community, to walk in the parade you can either register via our website or on Saturday morning in person!

Meet at the car park in front of Beau Bijou on Valley Road, opposite Valley Medical Centre. The parade will then make its way past the Town Hall, through the square, up Bridge Gate, along Holme Street and into Calder Holmes Park for the beginning of The Big Day Out!

📅 Saturday 25th July. Meet at 10:30am.

🎟️ Free to attend

Children under16 must be accompanied by an adult

🌈It’s almost time for the Happy Valley Pride Decade Parade! Really looking forward to dancing through the streets of Hebden Bridge this Saturday, 25th July🌈

We’ll be setting off from near the Medical Centre on Valley Rd, shortly after 11am. Then we’ll head through town via Bridge Gate and Holme St, finishing in the park. The fun doesn’t end there, come to the park and enjoy The Big Day Out, running from 12-6:30pm. Full details on Happy Valley Pride socials. See you there!

PS, to answer a few questions - no this isn’t our usual “Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade”, but we’ve helped community members to make some gorgeous costumes and there will be NEW PUPPETS! Yaay! So it’s very similar to the normal parade, but a much smaller version. And all about PRIDE, obviously. Definitely bringing the usual joy❤️
