Did you know that Nether Heage was once home to a P.O.W Camp?

Camp 58, or Firs Camp once housed prisoners of war during WW2 and later when it demolished it became an industrial estate.

Did you know that Heage Windmill is the only stone towered six sailed windmill still operating in England?

Well if you didn't you do now! But what if you could find out more?

🔎 Hear the stories of the Prisoner of War camp, read all about the restoration of Heage Windmill and learn something new about the two fascinating villages steeped in history right here in Amber Valley at this weeks Heage and Nether Heage History Open Day. ✨

➡ Featuring talks and information from local history groups, the event promises to take people on a journey back in time and relive some of the history of the area.

🌸 Heage WI – Our September Meeting 🌸

Before we look ahead to our September meeting, we’d like to say a massive thank you to all our members who helped out at The Old Goats Grumble last weekend. Whether you baked for us, helped man the stall, or turned up for the set-up and take-down, your help was very much appreciated — especially with the rather challenging weather! 🌧️

As always, a huge thank you to League Of Zeal MCC, North Derbyshire for all their help and support over the weekend, and also to David, John and Mark for all their hard work. We really couldn’t do it without you! ❤️

Tuesday 8th – our September meeting
We’re delighted to welcome Steve from Ignite fitness in Belper. Steve will be showing us some exercises to help with those dreaded bat wings! 💪😂
There will also be a Q&A session on all things fitness, so if you have a question, bring it along!
👟 Please wear comfortable leisure clothing as there will be some practical exercises.
It’s been lovely to welcome some new members recently, and as always, new members are very welcome. So if you’ve been thinking about coming along, why not give us a try?

🌸 HEAGE WI – WE’RE BACK AFTER THE SUMMER! 🌸

We hope everyone has been enjoying a lovely summer! ☀️
Before our summer break, we finished on a high with a brilliant Treasure Hunt, organised by our lovely Tammy. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves — especially when we discovered that the “treasure” was a beautiful bunch of fresh flowers for every member! 💐 What a lovely surprise.
We then rounded off the evening with an al fresco fish & chip supper at The Spanker, Nether Heage🐟🍟🥂 — lots of laughter, good company and a perfect summer evening.
A very special thank you to Tammy for organising such a lovely evening for us. ❤️
🐐 Next Up – The Old Goats Grumble! 🐐
📅 Friday 29th – Sunday 30th August
This is always one of the highlights of our year and our members will once again be busy baking plenty of homemade cakes and savoury scones, with tea and coffee being served throughout the weekend. 🍰☕️
We’re really looking forward to being part of The Grumble again and hope to see lots of friends old and new over the weekend. Come along, say hello and treat yourself to something homemade! 😊

🌸 A Wonderful End to Another Busy WI Season! 🌸

As we head towards our final meeting before our summer break, we'd like to take a moment to celebrate what a wonderful community we have here at Heage WI 💚

A huge thank you goes to our talented member, Christine, for creating the beautiful WI flower display at the recent St Luke's Church Flower Festival. She did us proud! 🌺💐

Next Tuesday (14th July) we'll be enjoying a Treasure Hunt organised by our fab social team around Nether Heage 🗺️🔎, followed by a well-earned fish and chip supper 🐟🍟 at The Spanker, Nether Heage, It's always a lovely evening and a fantastic way to round off another busy WI season.

We're so fortunate to have members from both Heage and Nether Heage, and we're proud of the strong links we've built with our local communities over many years. Whether you've lived here all your life or are new to the area, you'll always receive a warm welcome at Heage WI. There's no need to live in Heage to join us – everyone is welcome, and we'd love to see even more local ladies come along and discover what WI is all about. 🤝💚

After our summer break, we'll be back with another varied programme of speakers, activities and friendship, and we're already looking forward to supporting The Old Goats Grumble at the end of August. We'll share more details about that nearer the time.

🌿✨ Heage WI Update ✨🌿

A little change of plan for our annual picnic this week! With the rain refusing to stay away, we swapped Cromford Wharf for the Church Hall and simply brought our picnics indoors instead. 🧺☔ It turned into a lovely relaxed evening, full of friendship, chatter and plenty of laughs, and it was great to welcome a new member to the Heage WI family too. 💚
Our hardworking Heage WI Gardening Team haven't let the weather slow them down either! Since our last post they've been busy laying an incredible 700 litres of bark mulch, planting more beautiful lavender and keeping on top of the w**ds.🌱💜

The garden is looking absolutely wonderful and is a real credit to the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers. Thank you to everyone who helps keep this little corner of Heage looking so lovely for the whole community to enjoy. 🌸

*UPDATE…….Tonights meeting will be at our usual meeting place due to the rain.

🌿 Just a reminder that our June meeting takes place tomorrow evening and it's our annual picnic! 🧺☀️

We'll be meeting at Cromford Wharf at 7pm, so please bring your own picnic. If anyone would like a lift, please pop a message on the WhatsApp group and we'll make sure everyone gets there. 🚗

As always, we have a wet weather plan! ☔ If the weather is against us, we'll meet at our usual venue, Heage Methodist Church.

It's been a busy few weeks since we last met. At the end of May, several of our members helped at the annual Action Research garden party in Heage 🌸 and yesterday some of our ladies were helping out at the ‘Big Do’ at The Village Hall. It was lovely to see so many people there enjoying a wonderful community event, with local groups coming together and visitors enjoying cream teas served by Heage WI. 🍰☕

Our gardening team have also been working incredibly hard and the garden is looking better every week. 🌼 A huge thank you to Freda for organising the volunteer sessions, Christine and Anne for sourcing woodchip, compost and plants, and everyone who has turned up to w**d, plant and help keep the garden looking so beautiful for everyone to enjoy. 🌱👏

We're also delighted to have welcomed new members recently. A very warm welcome to you all – we hope you're enjoying being part of Heage WI. 💜

🌸 Heage WI Reminder 🌸

Just a reminder that our Annual General Meeting will take place this Tuesday (12th April) at 7.30pm 😊

During the evening we will:
✨ Review the past year
✨ Approve our finances
✨ Elect our committee
✨ Vote on the national resolutions

After the formal meeting, we’ll enjoy some relaxed social time together, so please bring along some nibbles and non-alcoholic drinks to share 🧁☕🥂

A big thank you as well to everyone involved in Saturday’s Great Heage Bake Off at The Village Hall Heage 🍰

Our WI were very pleased to be invited along to help serve drinks and cakes, Tammy, Christine and Davina helped on the day and Davina also helped with the judging 👩‍🍳
Congratulations to all the entrants and prize winners — the standard of baking was fantastic! 👏🏆

🌿 Freda is looking for a few plants for the WI garden to fill some spaces, so if you have anything spare in the garden, please let her know 🌱🌼

🌼 Heage WI – A Fresh Chapter, Stronger Together 🌼

It’s been so lovely to come together again as a strong, supportive group after what has been a bit of an unsettling time for us all 💛

We’re really feeling the strength of our WI at the moment – there’s a real sense of togetherness and positivity, which is wonderful to see. It’s also been great to welcome some new faces to our meeting this week, and to see new followers joining us here on Facebook too – a very warm welcome to you all 🌿

On Tuesday we had a speaker introducing us to “emotional tapping” – a slightly unconventional topic that certainly got us all talking! It may not have been quite what we expected, but it definitely gave us plenty to smile about and a good laugh together, which is never a bad thing 😊

Looking ahead, we’ve got lots to enjoy:
🌸 May– Our Annual AGM, followed by some social time and a fuddle.
🌿 June– A lovely picnic at High Peak Junction
🗺️ July– A fun treasure hunt around Belper followed by a fish and chip supper.
