Last Thursday was our last evening at Cubs before the Summer Holidays. To finish off the term, Cubs took part in some games involving getting wet.

In the first game, they had to race to fill up a bucket of water by filling up their cups from one bucket and transferring the water to the other.

In the second game, the cubs had a rubber ball filled with water and had to pass it to each other around the circle without the ball bursting.

We finished off the evening with a water fight where both cubs and adults got wet đź’¦

Last Thursday at Cubs was a hot week. We started off with a bit of work on the athletics badge. We discussed what we should wear for taking part in sports and then completed some different warm up techniques.

Afterwards, we took part in a couple of events including long jump, throwing and also a skipping race. We avoided doing any running races due to the temperature.

Afterwards as it was still warm, the Cubs asked for a water fight so the adults were equipped with water guns and given the task to get the Cubs wet! đź’¦

Last Thursday at Cubs instead of meeting at the hut, we went to Paccar Scout Campsite as a summer treat. Here, we took part on the climbing wall to try and make our way up to the top of two different sections of the wall. The evening was a fun and memorable experience for all.

This weekend 8th Hayes Cubs took part in Hillingdon West’s All-Sections District Camp alongside the Scout Section and Pyro Explorers.

It was a jam-packed weekend with plenty going on. We started on Friday evening settling down into camp and attended the opening ceremony campfire. On Saturday, we took part in our main activities which included Crate Stacking, Rifle Shooting, Caving alongside craft and food activities. We were then treated in the evening to a BBQ and also a disco. On Sunday, we had breakfast and then started to set down the campsite. We finished the weekend with some fun on some inflatables and also the closing ceremony again at the campfire circle.

Well done to all the Cubs that took part over the weekend and a fun time enjoyed by all.

Last Thursday at Cubs we worked on the Communicator badge. We discussed what methods are used in communicating with each other and we also discussed ways of communicating in secret via hidden messages.

The cubs were then tasked with listening to some coded messages and then had to use the provided keys to try and work out what the instructions were.

Last Thursday at Cubs we learnt how to set up and down a tent. As we will be going on camp soon, it was important for the Cubs to learn how to do this.

The Cubs worked in small groups to put up the tents followed by a bit of time inside the tents to admire their work. Afterwards, they then had to learn how to fold it back up and put it away into the bag again.

Afterwards, the cubs finished with a game of dodgeball.

Last Thursday was our first night back after the May half term. This week we did some pioneering work by making rope through braiding strawberry laces together and then worked on creating a camp gadget in the shape of an A-frame structure.

Cubs were taught how to do a Clove-hitch and a Diagonal lashing and were then put to the test to build two A-frames that were later put together with a pole across the two. This could have been used as a structure for a shelter or as a clothes airer amongst other uses.

Last Thursday at Cubs was this our last before the May half term. The previous week we worked on our Navigation Skills learning how to plot a route card. This week, we walked the route we plotted starting at the Scout Hut and going to each of our checkpoints before finishing back at the hut again.

During our walk, we stopped at various points in Hayes with historical interest such as the Beck Theatre, George Orwell’s old school and the cenotaph at St. Mary’s church. We also briefly stopped in Barra Hall park where Cubs played in the playgrounds.

Well done to all who took part on the walk and to Daniel for helping out.

Last Thursday at Cubs we did some work on Navigation. We learnt how to fill out a route card for a hike and planned a route on a local map which we will then use for next week where we will walk the route we planned.
