You don’t have to wait for it to get worse.

Maybe you’re constantly watching what you say, being made to feel guilty for seeing friends, or feeling anxious about your partner’s reaction.

You don’t need to wait for physical violence to ask for help. Control, threats and humiliation are abuse too.

The Empower Project supports men experiencing domestic abuse, helping them understand what’s happening and explore their options.

Do you feel anxious when your phone lights up?

Perhaps you’re expected to reply immediately, explain who you’re with or send proof of where you are. And if you don’t, you worry about the reaction.

When demands come with accusations, threats or punishment, they can be part of a pattern of controlling behaviour.

You deserve to see friends, go to work and get through your day without being afraid of missing a message.

The Empower Project supports men experiencing domestic abuse to understand what’s happening and explore their options.

You don’t need to have the right words before reaching out.

Do you agree because you want to — or because you’re afraid of your partner’s reaction?

Saying no shouldn’t lead to threats, humiliation or pressure to change your mind.

If you regularly give in because you’re worried about what your partner might say or do, you deserve support.

The Empower Project supports men experiencing domestic abuse to understand what’s happening and explore their options.

You don’t need to have all the answers before reaching out.

Have you started turning down plans because you’re worried about your partner’s reaction?

Perhaps seeing friends leads to accusations, threats or an argument when you get home. Over time, staying in can feel easier—and you may find yourself losing touch with people who matter to you.

When a partner uses fear or pressure to restrict who you see, it can be a sign of controlling behaviour.

You deserve to maintain friendships without feeling afraid.

If this feels familiar, contact The Empower Project to talk about what’s happening and explore support.

Having to explain every purchase. Being denied access to money. Being stopped from working or having debts taken out in your name.

Financial control can be part of domestic abuse—even when there is no physical violence.

A shared budget should involve a shared say. It shouldn’t leave you frightened to buy essentials or dependent on someone else’s permission.

The Empower Project supports men experiencing domestic abuse, and men who need help to take responsibility for their own abusive behaviour.

💜 October is recognised as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the US and marked by organisations internationally.

While the UK doesn’t have an officially recognised awareness month, we’re joining the conversation to raise awareness, challenge stigma and highlight support.

At The Empower Project, we’re shining a light on how domestic abuse can affect men’s mental wellbeing — including the impact that others may never see.

You might look fine to everyone else, while feeling constantly on edge at home.

Domestic abuse can affect your confidence, your sleep and your mental wellbeing. Repeated threats, humiliation, isolation or controlling behaviour can leave you questioning yourself and feeling afraid.

You don’t need a visible injury to deserve support. And you don’t need to have everything worked out before asking for help.

Contact The Empower Project to talk about what you’re experiencing and explore your options.
