Very special event last night at Christ Church St Leonards celebrating Phenomenal Woman - a beautiful fundraiser organised by Sunshine on Sea in support of Advance (supporting survivors of domestic abuse) and Sustenance.

The talent on stage was top level : singers, songwriters, musicians and a whole team of skilled people who made the evening feel truly special.

We loved meeting so many interesting people, sharing Sustenance food ( Gaby Szabo and volunteers Akiko, Kuba and Oli ) and chatting with new volunteers and supporters who want to get involved and collaborate in the future.

Great to see our pals serving up their craft beer brewed for local charity and social care causes in Hastings

Thank you to to Chris McKenna, Sean Duggan and Francis Hinton of Sunshine on Sea and to and and everyone else involved for raising much needed funds to support locals in food poverty.

What a night 😍 Thankyou

Woohoo! We’re very proud to unveil Sustenance’s new logo, beautifully designed by Emily Sherratt . This refreshed identity reflects our commitment to community, dignity and access to good food for everyone.

A huge thank‑you to Emily for creating this pro bono, giving us the chance to share early drafts with our members and volunteers, and capturing the essence of what we do so thoughtfully

And keep an eye out - you’ll soon spot our new logo on the Sustenance van driving around East Sussex 💫

You can see more of Emily’s work at www.emilysherratt.com.

It's so lovely here. Everyone's so kind. The first time I came and sat at the Sustenance advice table - it was just… just the heart here is lovely. We are a little community project, so we're a bit like a charity.

We're giving Sustenance members help with their energy and water bills. We are able to signpost people for help if they've got debt, or we can look at energy saving tips, help people get on the best tariff for their energy. So anything to do with your electricity or gas, or if you've got a cold house and you're finding it hard to heat, we can maybe look at insulation or finding you some draft proofing or things like that.

We just give impartial advice and try and help people work through things, and we can sort of point people to grants that might be able to help or to other organisation that might be able to help as well. Yeah, I love coming here.

I’ve been volunteering at Sustenance for two and a half years. After retiring from my work in complementary health, I found that my one day a week at Concordia Hall brought structure and purpose back into my life.
I especially enjoy the team spirit. After 38 years of working one‑to‑one with patients, being part of a lively group has been a wonderful change. Each week we collect surplus food stored in the fridges and freezers, bring it to the hall, and sort it into around 75 grocery bags.
As we also serve a three‑course meal, we transform the hall into a dining room.. setting up tables and chairs for 50+ diners and then packing everything away again. It’s amazing how the initial chaos always turns into calm, thanks to the team working like clockwork.
Volunteering here has been incredibly enjoyable. I look forward to it every week and am constantly impressed by how smoothly everything comes together under Rima’s gentle leadership.

We’re delighted to have received from FareShare: Minced wild venison - a delicious, sustainable, high‑protein and deeply nutritious meat.
FareShare has been working with conservation partners inc to ensure that surplus wild deer -animals managed for ecological balance - are turned into high‑quality minced venison for food banks and community food clubs like ours. It’s an inspired initiative: reducing waste, supporting conservation, and getting exceptional nutrition to the people who need it most.
We’re genuinely thrilled to be able to offer meals made with such nutrient‑dense, ethically sourced food to members of our community experiencing food insecurity.
It’s a brilliant example of what can happen when government, conservation projects and charities work together with a bit of imagination and common sense!
💕
Thank you to our incredible volunteers chef and the whole kitchen team for creating a rich, flavourful bolognese wrapped around conchiglie, with a beautifully crisp Italian side salad.

Sustenance volunteers - Akiko and Christine using centrifugal force to dry salad leaves.
Simply place washed, damp lettuce in the centre of a clean, absorbent tea towel, gather the corners, and vigorously swing it in a circular motion (preferably outside)
Look at the water flying through the air.
Quite mesmerising 💫
