Veterans In Communities Veterans In Communities (VIC) is an ex-services charity based in East Lancashire. VIC supports ex-se Welcome to the Veterans In Communities group.

VIC was established in 2012 to support those who have served in the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Emergency services and their families. VIC offers a range of activities and a means to share our experiences with others that may be experiencing some difficulties in settling down into civilian life or have made the adjustment and want to help who haven’t yet. This page allows our members to get our latest news. Feel free to let ‘us’ know what’s happening in your area, upload your pictures and share your views. Though your views are important, please do not post unsuitable content and images, links that are non-specific to VIC. Any information deemed unsuitable to the page will be removed by admin. Remember though…. Be polite, write diplomatically, even in a declaration of war one observes the rules of politeness!!

This year's VIC Christmas lunch is either 2 or 3 courses at Baxenden Golf Club on Wednesday 9th December at 12.30pm. The cost will be either £19 for 2 courses, or £23 for 3 courses.

Veterans In Communities will be undertaking an archival project of short interviews with our members, where they talk a little about their time in service and What being involved and supported by VIC means to them, enjoy.

On Sunday the 04/10/2026 Veterans In Communities were given informed access to the B and E Boys armour collection held at a location in Waterfoot, and it was a fantastic day out. We were shown around the collection by the very experienced and capable team who talked us through the many pieces of armour and fighting vehicles as well as some more support vehicles too. We were allowed to get on and in many of the pieces in the collection and the information provided by the staff at B & E Boys Select Military vehicles was second to none. May I take this opportunity to thank our volunteer Andrea Whitely for organising the day.

The banter was fierce during this weeks Coffee and Quiz at Trinity Methodist Church in Clitheroe when Quizmaster Ron Flowers tested their general knowledge and some were better prepared than others. We have a growing and steady presence from the Corps of the Royal Engineers and a healthy input from all other services, no matter what your cap-badge or service, military or Blue Light, you will always be welcomed with a brew and a chocolate biscuit. We meet every Tues 10-1200hrs at Trinity Methodist Church, Wesleyan Row, Parson Ln, Clitheroe BB7 2JY and you will be met with a warm welcome by the members and volunteers.

🌺 A Final Farewell to Veteran Ian White 🌺

We are sharing this for anyone from the veteran and wider community who may wish to attend and pay their respects.

Veterans in Communities was recently contacted by staff at Mapleford Nursing Home in Accrington following the passing of one of their residents, Ian White, who sadly has no known family.

Ian was an RAF veteran who served in Aden and was wounded during his service.

At the request of the care home, VIC has helped coordinate the military elements of Ian’s funeral, so that he can receive a fitting veteran’s farewell.

🌺 The funeral will take place this Thursday at Accrington Crematorium, with a Guard of Honour at 3.00pm, followed by the service.

🚌 A minibus will leave the VIC Centre in Haslingden at 2.15pm for anyone wishing to attend.

We understand Ian’s funeral has already been widely shared across social media and hope that he will have a good attendance on the day.

🎖️ All veterans, members of the Armed Forces community and anyone wishing to pay their respects are warmly welcome to attend.

Ian's Order of Service will include Nimrod and The Dambusters March as part of his final farewell along with standard bearers and The Last Post.

🌺 No veteran should make their final journey alone. 🌺

🌄 Sunday morning well spent! 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

It was an early start for some of our staff, volunteers and trustees this morning — and by early, we mean 7am! 😱 Definitely no Sunday lie-in for this lot!

Each year, Veterans in Communities is asked to lend a helping hand with the Rossendale Round the Hills walk — a gruelling 14 or 18-mile hike taking in some of the most stunning scenery our valley has to offer.

This morning, Ops Manager Phil Speddy was joined by Amy Thompson, Dave Whitehurst and Paul Nixon, who bravely sacrificed their Sunday morning lie-ins to help marshal the car park at Marl Pits, where the walkers set off.

Also lending a hand were VIC trustees Bob Smethurst and Alan Woods. 👏🏻

It’s a brilliant example of what Veterans in Communities is all about — veterans supporting and giving back to the communities around us. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who gave up their Sunday morning to help out. You’ve done us proud!

Now… who’s volunteering for the 14-mile walk next year? 😉
