Volunteering has the power to create positive change, both for the people giving their time and for the communities around them.

People volunteer for all sorts of reasons. To gain experience, learn new skills, build confidence, support a cause they care about, meet new people or take on a new challenge.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating everyone who gives their time to support organisations and communities across Harrow.

Thinking about getting involved yourself?

Explore volunteering opportunities through organisations across our network and find a role that works for you.

Today, on International Children’s Day, we’re reflecting on the importance of protecting children’s rights and ensuring every young person has access to the support, opportunities and safe spaces they need to thrive.

Across Harrow, our members work every day to make this a reality. From youth services and mentoring to mental health support, holiday activities and community programmes, they help children and young people build confidence, develop new skills and feel connected to their communities.

We’re proud to work alongside organisations that are helping create a borough where every child can be safe, supported and able to reach their potential.

💡 Did you know that 70% of young people in the UK don’t receive early mental health support when they need it?

This Mental Health Awareness Week, YHF, alongside other Young People’s Foundations ( ), is highlighting the importance of turning awareness into action.

We’re joining the call to take action, for yourself, for someone else, and for all of us, because lasting change happens when communities come together.

Last week in partnership with we brought together 14 Short Breaks providers with Harrow Council’s CYAD team at Victoria Hall.

As the Short Breaks offer continues to grow across the borough, sessions like this creates space for the people delivering activities and the teams connecting families to them to sit down together, ask questions, and get a clearer sense of what’s out there.

Across the morning, providers shared their work, from community-based activities and trips to programmes focused on independence and life skills, followed by time to connect and work through how this all fits together in practice.

More providers means more choice for families. Making that easier to navigate is the next step.

Is your child home educated, experiencing school anxiety, or currently not in school? 🌿

Finding the right kind of space for them to feel safe, confident, and themselves can be hard.

That's why Woodland Adventure Harrow Forest School exists.

Every Tuesday, they offer a relaxed, nurturing outdoor group for children aged 5–12, designed with their needs at the heart.

Children can:
🌳 Climb trees, build dens and explore the woods
🔥 Learn practical skills like fire lighting and whittling (safely supported)
🎨 Get creative with nature crafts and messy play
🪵 Discover the natural world through hands-on learning
🌿 Take quiet time when they need it – hammocks, space, and calm are always available

This is a small, inclusive, and understanding community where families are welcomed exactly as they are. Parents and carers are free to stay or leave.

If you're looking for something gentle, flexible and genuinely supportive for your child, this is a great opportunity.

Every Tuesday | Ages 5–12 | Harrow
