Deo Duce Foundation

Deo Duce Foundation Supporting the educational, training and well being needs of young people in the Harrow area.

The Deo Duce Foundation was formally established in 2020 as a charitable collaboration between past pupils of the Salvatorian College and Old Salvatorians Football Club. Our aims are focused around the educational and well-being needs of young people aged typically 25 or under in the Harrow area, and we support a variety of projects to help them achieve their potential. The Deo Duce Foundation has

been established to support:

Education
DDF recognises that education provides the foundation for the future success of young people, but there are times when school budgets do not allow the purchase of equipment or obtain services that would provide motivational insights into the world of work. Mental health
The negative impact of peer comparison, social media and changes to family situations on the mental well-being of young people, and boys in particular, has been highlighted in recent years. This may become even more evident after the loss of so much education and friendship time due to the Covid-19 lockdown

Training
Young people need, more than ever, to be able to adapt to a fast-changing world and workplace. Learning does not stop after school and new skills may be needed, especially for those seeking work.

Happy half term from Deo Duce Foundation.

Whether you’re a working parent juggling childcare, activities and work, a teacher taking a well-earned pause, or a student enjoying a break from the usual routine, we hope this week brings a little space to reset and recharge.

Half term can look different for everyone, but however you’re spending it, we hope it gives you a chance to slow down, reconnect and enjoy some time away from the everyday rush.

Wishing all families, schools and communities a happy and restful half term.

A collaboration between Salvatorian College and Business Education Events (BEE), funded by the Deo Duce Foundation, has helped Year 9 students gain valuable experience of the interview process.

Trustee Eddy Dempsey was one of 30 business volunteers who recently took part in a highly interactive mock interview session. The students had applied for a fictional apprenticeship role with BT and were interviewed by volunteers from a wide range of professional backgrounds.

For the vast majority of students, this was their first experience of being interviewed.

Feedback from the students was incredibly positive, including:

“This experience was very helpful and I truly believe this will help us.”

“What an amazing opportunity for us all today. Thank you to everyone that came and supported us. It has really given me the confidence to try harder and aim higher.”

“I greatly enjoyed the experience. The interviewer was nice and helpful and gave me feedback that I can keep in mind.”

“I learnt today how to answer questions strongly and with confidence, how to conduct myself in an interview, and developed my situational awareness and conversational skills.”

“I learnt that recruiters are looking for reasons to hire you, rather than reasons not to.”

The business volunteers were equally positive, commenting on the excellent behaviour of the boys and the warm welcome from BEE and the school.

Eddy commented:
“The whole event was very positive. The young people involved will all have gained a valuable insight into what to expect in an interview, as well as tips on how to research and prepare for it. I’m glad to collaborate with BEE and Salvatorian again.”

Deo Duce Foundation Trustee Eddy Dempsey recently visited My Yard in South Harrow, alongside Fatima Asif from Young Harrow Foundation.

My Yard provides vital support to local communities, using surplus food and the dedication of volunteers to support mainly elderly residents through hubs in South Harrow, Pinner and Barnet, as well as delivering food packages.

During the visit, Eddy also learned more about My Yard’s initiative with Shaftesbury High School SEN Harrow, which provides young people with varying levels of learning difficulty the opportunity to gain work experience in a safe, friendly and supportive environment.

It was inspiring to see the young people actively involved - joining in with activities, interacting with visitors and helping to serve food to those attending. Eddy also heard from one of the teachers at Shaftesbury High School, whose passion for helping young people with disabilities move towards paid employment was clear and deeply inspiring.

Eddy also spoke with volunteers, including one young man who shared that volunteering at My Yard had “changed my life”, giving him a sense of community and purpose.

Sometimes it can be hard to see the tangible difference funded programmes make. On this visit, that impact was visible everywhere.

A huge thank you to the team and volunteers at My Yard for their work and hospitality, to Shaftesbury High School for their commitment, and to Fatima Asif and Young Harrow Foundation for helping facilitate the visit.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 đź’™

This week, Deo Duce Foundation is proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week, helping to raise awareness and encourage open conversations around mental health and wellbeing.

This year’s theme is Action - a reminder that while awareness is important, small actions can also make a real difference.

For young people, those actions might be talking to someone they trust, taking time away from screens, getting outside, moving more, asking for help, or simply knowing they are not alone.

At Deo Duce Foundation, we believe every young person deserves to feel supported, heard and valued.

This week is a good reminder for all of us - parents, carers, schools, communities and organisations - to keep checking in, keep listening and keep making space for honest conversations.

Small actions matter. đź’™

A big week for Year 11 and Year 13 students across the country as they finish their school year and begin GCSE and A Level exams.

To the parents and carers: good luck to you too. đź’™

Whether you’re offering lifts, making snacks, checking revision timetables, walking on eggshells, or pretending not to panic about the missing calculator, you’re part of the support team too.

From everyone at Deo Duce Foundation, we’re wishing all students the very best of luck.

Stay calm, keep perspective, and remember - one exam at a time.

Meaningful May đź’™

This month’s Action for Happiness calendar is all about finding small ways to bring more meaning into everyday life.

From showing kindness and connecting with others, to noticing what matters and making time for reflection, these little daily actions can have a positive impact on our wellbeing and the people around us.

At Deo Duce Foundation, we believe in the power of community, kindness and small acts that help young people feel supported, valued and encouraged.

Why not choose one action from the calendar today and see where it leads?

If you work within a school or nursery setting, this is one to take a look at. đź’›

The NSPCC Kindness Challenge 2026 takes place from 30th September to 4th October, but schools and nurseries can complete the challenge whenever works best for them.

It’s a great way to encourage children to create kindness in their school community, while also raising money to support Childline. The NSPCC provides free ideas and resources to help schools plan their challenge.

Kindness starts young, and schools and nurseries are brilliant places to encourage children to support, include and care for one another.

There’s plenty of time to get signed up and involved, find out more > https://www.awarenessdays.com/awareness-days-calendar/nspccs-kindness-challenge/

The NSPCC Kindness Challenge is designed to promote kindness and emotional well-being among children. Schools and nurseries are encouraged to participate by
