Harpenden Round Table

Harpenden Round Table Looking for mates who actually turn up. We run charity events, socials, and Santa. Harpenden. Ages 18 to 45 (ish). Join us.

Round table is first and foremost a group of friends who enjoy meeting people and spending time socialising. A fair amount of which has to be said is in the pub. Also a great way to get involved with local events and meet local people especially, if you have relocated to Harpenden with work. A long run tradition for many Round Tables around the country is providing a sleigh for Santa to travel the

streets at Christmas and raise money for charity. Christmas music blares out from an illuminated sleigh (on the back of a van) and all the kids from the surrounding houses come out to meet Santa. The residents all donate money to the elves who are travelling with the sleigh. In 2020 the collection rounds continued (with covid safe methods and less collectors) and still raised around £9,000 for charity. During the first lock down in early 2020 the Round Table took a donated van with large Rainbows on the side and travelled all the streets of Harpenden, Batford and Wheathampstead over 3 days to collect well needed food donations for the food banks which had been overwhelmed with people needing their support. The team was blown away by the generosity and managed to collect over 3 tonnes of food and over £3,500 in cash

Apart from the fundraising the main reason the members are involved is to improve their social lives. The group meet twice a month on a Wednesday night and do a range of things. These can be a bike ride / pub crawl in the summer, a trip White Water rafting at Lee Valley, tour of a local brewery, indoor go carting, pub quizzes and anything else people want to suggest. Round Table can offer something for everyone. So if you've ever wondered who we are or what we are all about, or you are new to the area, why not find out more and join us for beer. Drop a message through Facebook and someone will reply.

This is it Harpenden.

Santa is heading out for his final night on the streets before the big HO HO HO. The sleigh is polished, the bells are ready, and Santa is soaking up every last wave before the main event.

From 6:30pm we will be covering Milton Road, Crabtree Lane, Gilpin Green, Cowper Road, Shakespeare Road, Spencer Road, Overstone Road and Kipling Way.

A huge thank you to our sleigh sponsor, for backing this year’s run and helping keep Santa rolling. The elves remain convinced it is the pies.

Thank you to everyone who has waved, donated, opened gates, walked down long driveways, and kept Santa fuelled with festive cheer over the past few weeks. It has meant more than you know.

Santa has put his out of office on and swapped the sherry for a beer.

Even Father Christmas needs a moment to recharge after nights on the sleigh. The good news is you can still donate while he enjoys a well earned drink.

Relax Harpenden. This is not Santa’s last Christmas.

Despite the soundtrack suggesting otherwise, Santa is very much alive and out tonight in The Avenues, joined by Tangent, Round Table’s sister organisation. Elegant company, excellent organisation, and a level of festive efficiency Santa is quietly enjoying.

From 6:30pm we will be covering Rothamsted Avenue, Orchard Avenue, Park Avenue, Maple Road, Longcroft Avenue, Kirkwall Avenue, Roseberry Avenue and Salisbury Avenue.

If your driveway is longer than the sleigh, wider than the reindeer, and secured by gates, please feel free to open them or meet Santa at the end. Tangent will thank you. Santa will nod respectfully.
