Anyone thinking about going to Attleborough Pride, please rethink, why you say ??

The event's organiser, is Daniel Burcham, who was elected as a Reform UK councillor to Norfolk County Council in 2026.

More than 10 drag performers and entertainers withdrew from Attleborough Pride, saying they no longer wished to take part in an event organised by a Reform UK politician.

Some performers argued that Reform UK's stance on LGBTQ+ issues conflicted with the values Pride represents. They pointed to actions by Reform-led councils, including removing Pride flags and LGBTQ+ promotional material from some council buildings and libraries, as evidence of the party's approach.

One performer, drag artist Stealia Jobs, told ITV News:

"I don't see how you can be a gay person and part of the Reform Party."

The disagreement escalated after Burcham posted a Facebook advertisement for the event using photographs of drag performers from previous years. Several performers said they had not given permission for their images to be used and requested that they be removed because they no longer wanted to be associated with the event. Burcham later deleted the advert.

Burcham rejected claims that the event was incompatible with Pride's values and said the backlash had strengthened the organisers' determination to proceed.

He also defended Reform UK's policy of not flying Pride flags on council buildings, arguing that:

he is "a proud gay Reform councillor";

opposition to flying the Pride flag from government buildings is not anti-gay;

council buildings should remain politically neutral and represent all residents equally rather than endorsing particular causes.

Why would you want to give all your hard earned money on Saturday, to someone who will go to County hall on Monday and do everything he can to put your rights and what you believe in back 50 years...

The attack at Berlin Pride is a stark reminder of why we must continue to stand together in support of LGBTQ+ rights, equality, and freedom of expression.

No one should ever face hatred, violence, or fear because of who they are, who they love, or how they choose to express themselves. Pride is more than a celebration. It is a statement that everyone deserves to live openly, safely, and with dignity.

When any community is targeted, we all have a responsibility to speak out. Silence allows hate to grow. Unity, compassion, and understanding are how we move forward.

Today, I ask you to stand with the LGBTQ+ community. Speak up against discrimination, support local Pride events, challenge prejudice when you see it, and help create communities where everyone feels safe and welcome.

Together, we can show that love is stronger than hate, and that diversity, inclusion, and freedom will always be worth defending. 🏳️‍🌈❤️
