👀 There’s more happening at Greenwood than you might see on our timetable…

For , we’ve been showing you the groups, classes and activities that fill Greenwood each week. But that’s only part of the story.

Behind the scenes, our smaller rooms are busy too.

📚 Young people receive one-to-one tuition and educational support.
🤝 Local care organisations use Greenwood for team meetings, training and planning.
💚 Charities and community organisations come together here to meet, collaborate and plan their work.

We also provide space for counselling, professional meetings and other support services that, quite rightly, aren't advertised on a public timetable.

So a quiet-looking day at Greenwood often isn't quiet at all.

Providing welcoming, accessible and affordable space for the people and organisations supporting our community is an important part of what a community centre can do.

Sometimes our contribution is delivering the activity ourselves. Sometimes it's simply providing the space that enables someone else to make a difference.

Saturdays are for dance at Greenwood Community Centre! 🩰

We’re delighted to welcome the Lauren Haith School of Dance each Saturday, bringing the Centre to life with ballet classes for young dancers.

Our spaces are home to activities for all ages throughout the week — helping make Greenwood a place where our community can meet, learn, move and connect.

🎉This week The Community Engagement Team visited Castelnau Community Centre as part of Your Community Centres week! 🌞

The Term-Time Café was buzzing with people from across the area who had just finished the Strength and Stretch exercise class. They told us how much they loved the Community Centre. It was a great place to make new friends and have a nice cup of tea for only £1! Residents were glowing about the “kind, thoughtful and friendly staff.”

Castelnau Community Centre is a hidden gem! There are lots of different activities which you can find on their website (link above!)

There's so much going on this week and every week at Richmond's fantastic and welcoming Community Centres, have a look for yourself!

🏡💚 Celebrating Your Community Centre Week. This week has been an opportunity to shine a light on community centres across Richmond upon Thames and the enormous variety of things happening inside them. It hasn't been about one big event. It has been about spreading the word about the places that are here week after week: bringing people together, providing homes for local groups and activities, supporting charities and community organisations, and creating spaces where people can meet, learn, exercise, find support or simply enjoy some company. At Greenwood Community Centre, we're proud to be one part of that much wider community of centres serving people across the borough. Your Community Centre Week may only last a few days, but the doors of our community centres are open throughout the year. Perhaps there's more happening at your local community centre than you realise!

🪩 Sometimes you just need a disco!

For , we’re sharing some of the things that happen at Greenwood that you won’t necessarily find on a regular timetable.

Alongside our weekly groups, classes and services, we love creating one-off activities, themed sessions and special events that give people another reason to get out, have fun and spend time with others.

This was one of our Seated Discos – proof that you don’t necessarily need a dance floor to enjoy the music! 🎶

Throughout the year you might find everything from themed socials and entertainment to creative activities, talks, celebrations and something completely new that we’ve decided to try.

For us, it’s not really about filling a programme with activities. It’s about creating opportunities for people to meet, share an experience and make connections. 💚

And sometimes, a disco ball helps. 🪩

Quite a lot, actually!

Not everything happening at Greenwood appears on our public timetable.

📚 One-to-one tuition and educational support
🤝 Care-sector team meetings and training
💚 Charity and community organisation meetings
💬 Counselling and support services
💡 Planning, collaboration and partnership working

These quieter activities are easy to overlook, but they're an important part of how Greenwood supports our wider community.

Sometimes we deliver the activity.
Sometimes we bring people together.
And sometimes providing the right space enables somebody else to do something brilliant.

That's community too. 💚
