The Pear Tree Fund

The Pear Tree Fund We support people with life-changing illnesses in Halesworth and the surrounding areas. Thanks to your generosity, we have now constructed the building.

We have opened an innovative information and support centre in Halesworth which provides a wide range of valuable services for people who have been diagnosed with any life changing illnesses, as well as their families, friends and carers. Called the Pear Tree Centre, it acts as a one stop shop which provides counselling, help understanding a diagnosis, financial and benefits advice and complementa

ry treatments close to people's homes. However, we are still asking for your support to meet the running costs of the building so that we can continue to support vulnerable members of our community when they need it the most.

A keen artist is selling more than 60 pieces of original artwork to raise funds to thank our charity for the support we gave her following the loss of her husband.

Valerie England completed a 10-week art course at the Pear Tree Centre to help her cope with grief after losing her husband Richard three years ago.

The course ignited a flame of creativity in the 83-year-old, who has since gone onto produce a huge range of artwork . She is now planning a sale of her work in her garden, and will donate 50% of all proceeds to the Pear Tree Fund.

“I’ve been visiting the Pear Tree Centre for the past year and it is really wonderful,” said Valerie. “After losing my husband I found I was missing company and felt low. The centre has filled this void and ignited my passion for art once again. I’m so incredibly grateful for this beautiful space here in Halesworth. It’s more than a place – it’s a lifeline.”

The art sale takes place on Sunday 14 June between 12noon and 4pm at Ingle Nook, Norwich Road, Halesworth, IP19 8QQ. Everyone is welcome. See you there!

The event raised an amazing £1542, this money helps the people who walk through our doors during the most challenging times of their lives. Thank-You Jane!

After a year as chair of the Pear Tree Fund, Prof Duncan Empey has sadly resigned due to ill health.

As chief medical officer at the London Hospital in Whitechapel and an expert in cystic fibrosis, Duncan brought a wealth of experience to the post and will be very difficult to replace.

Dinah Morley, who chaired the Pear Tree Fund previously, will stand in as interim while a replacement is appointed.

We know that Duncan will stay in touch with us and we thank him sincerely for his support. Our trustees and staff are very sad to see him go and wish him all the very best for the future.

As many of you know, I’m the Centre and Operations Manager for the Pear Tree Centre in Halesworth, One of the illnesses that the centre supports with is very close to my heart—dementia. My mum has been living with dementia for many years, and this month was one of the hardest of our family's life, as we had to make the difficult decision to move her into a care home.

In June, I’ll be taking part in the Lowestoft 10K, running in support of those affected by dementia. I’ll be raising money for the Pear Tree Centre so we can continue to support as many individuals and families as possible facing this incredibly challenging condition.

Any support you can give—whether through donations or simply sharing this—would mean a great deal.
