Applications for the Short Breaks Scheme funding are now open for 2026/27.
Funded by the Welsh Government, the Short Breaks Scheme supports unpaid carers of all ages across Wales to take a meaningful break from their caring role. It provides carers with an opportunity to rest, recharge, and focus on their own wellbeing. These breaks can help alleviate the physical and emotional demands that often come with caring for a family member or friend.
Carers Trust Wales, the national coordinating body of the scheme, provides grants to organisations across Wales to enable thousands of unpaid carers to benefit from a short break. As a network partner of Carers Trust Wales, NEWCIS is able to offer Short Break Grants to carers registered with our service.
Funding is available to eligible unpaid carers living in South Wales within the following local authority areas:
• Caerphilly
• Newport
• Blaenau Gwent

Funding closes at the end of September 2026.
