๐ŸŽ† Fireworks and Our Furry Friends ๐ŸŽ†
As Bonfire Night and the festive season approach, weโ€™d like to share an important reminder.

While fireworks can be beautiful to us, they can be terrifying for animals. Our donkeys, along with horses, dogs, cats, wildlife, and livestock everywhere, can become frightened, stressed, or even injured by sudden loud bangs and bright flashes.

This year, please consider:
โœจ Choosing silent or low-noise fireworks โ€” they offer the sparkle without the stress.
โœจ Letting your neighbours and local farms know in advance if youโ€™re planning fireworks.
โœจ Or best of all โ€” celebrate without fireworks at all. There are plenty of peaceful, animal-friendly ways to make memories!

Below we have attached a video of two of our ponies from recent bonfire night displays. We know it may be hard to watch, but this is what fireworks can cause. Year after year, we have stood in stables, in fields and pens trying our best to calm our precious animals.

Redwings Horse Sanctuary currently have a petition asking for the volume of consumer fireworks to be reduced from 120 decibels to 90 decibels. If you are in agreement of this please sign this petition.

Together, we can make sure that every creature โ€” great and small โ€” feels safe this season. ๐Ÿ’ซ

๐ŸŒฟ A New Chapter for Our Sanctuary Family ๐ŸŒฟ

Weโ€™re so happy to share that all of our donkeys, ponies, and goats have now settled beautifully into our new home! ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’›

Our new location is wonderfully peaceful and remote. Weโ€™re especially grateful to have been able to move all of our rescue animals before the fireworks season began. As we move into fireworks season please keep in mind that fireworks may seem harmless fun, but for rescue animals and livestock, they can mean panic, injury, or even death. Fortunately they can now enjoy a calm and quiet space without the stress and worry that loud noises used to bring.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us through this big move โ€” it means the world to us and to our four-legged friends! ๐Ÿ’š

I thought it would be about time we shared with you all the moving journey of 5 of our donkeys: Seamus, Declan, Paddy, Dotty and Betsy.

Firstly we would like to say a massive thank you to The Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary for taking them in for us and helping us find private forever homes.

Secondly thank you Daveyโ€™s Transport for doing such an amazing job at moving them, we could not have done it without you.

Dotty and Betsy have moved to a private home under The Flicka Foundation with three miniature donkeys.

Seamus, Declan and Paddy have moved in to another private under The Flicka Foundation with two miniature donkeys.

All are very very happy in their new homes! We are receiving regular updates and will share them with you when we get them.

As we have been clearing, packing and moving at the Donkey Park, I thought I would share some of the adventures from the โ€œmost helpful helpersโ€โ€ฆ ๐Ÿฅด

Loaf and Pugh, a Troublesome Two

Loaf and Pugh were goats with flair, Causing chaos everywhere!
When packing boxes, theyโ€™d unpack, then sit inside and take a nap.
They'd chew the tape, then chase the cat, and stand on stable mats โ€” right where theyโ€™re at!

No budging them, not one bit, just chewing cud and throwing a fit.
Though full of trouble, wild and free, They moved with all the sanctuary.
With mischief, love, and cheeky grins โ€” Thatโ€™s how the goat adventure begins! ๐Ÿ

With Old David closing the doors at the Tamar Valley Donkey Park for the last time, we would like to take a moment to thank all those who have shown their support over the years - whether it be recent or years ago! The cards and gifts that have been given to us has truly shown how many supporters we have - thank you.

During the last few months we have been reflecting on the impact the sanctuary has had on our local community, but also the impact we have had on the animals that have sought refuge with us over our 26 year ownership. Below we share a rough list of the animals that have been here! ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ‡๐ŸŽ๐Ÿชฟ

60+ donkeys
15+ ponies
30+ goats
16+ sheep
8+ pigs
Plus lots and lots of ducks, chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, various breeds of birds and chipmunks.

Whilst the Donkey Park is now closed, we will still be updating our page to show you all the animals in their new homes - keep an eye out for this!

Memories from the Donkey Park.
I wonder how many donkey names you can remember of all the donkeys we have given refuge to in the last 26 years. For me, Colleen was very special, and I called her my girl. Colleen loved going out and about and would always get in and out of the donkey box without a problem. She loved attending Nativity plays as she would most times get a mince pie or several mince pies at the end, also if there was any mulled wine around, she would be after the orange segments that were left in the glasses. Up and down steps, in and out of buildings, and even lifts, she would go anywhere I went without a problem. Pictures show Colleen at Gunnislake station where she nearly got on the train when the doors opened in front of her. I still miss her. This is one of Colleens newsletters I hope you enjoy reading. Regards Old D.
