Autism Friendly Surrey

On Wednesday 5th August 2026 Autism Friendly Surrey visited The Manor Hub in Farnham. This is a fantastic new inclusive activity and skills hub, now open for first visit enquiries. It has been created for neurodivergent and additional needs children, young people and adults who may find mainstream clubs or busy social environments difficult and would benefit from a calmer, more predictable place to explore interests, build confidence and connect with others. The Hub provides structured, low-pressure opportunities across social activities like interactive golf and interactive shuffleboard, gaming & e-sports, Dungeons & Dragons, chess, creative and digital skills, 3D model-making, cooking and life skills, employability and supported leisure.

Parents, carers and young adults can contact The Manor Hub directly without needing a formal referral. The first step is a low-pressure visit to look around the venue, discuss interests and support needs, and consider which sessions may be suitable. As they introduce their regular programme, first visits are being scheduled gradually based on availability so that they can ensure every family receives a welcoming and well-supported introduction. The main age groups are 11–16, 16+ young adults and selected adult specialist sessions, while children aged 10 and under usually need to attend with a supervising adult.

Open Afternoon at Burview Hall in Walton-on-Thames, organised by Elmbridge Mencap and supported by Autism Friendly Surrey.

There is no cost for the Open Afternoon which takes place on Wednesday 12th August 2026 – 1pm to 4pm.

Burview Hall has a wide range of facilities such as:
Two sensory rooms
A games room with snooker, pool, darts and table tennis
An enclosed sensory garden
Enclosed woodland area

Facilities like the sensory rooms can be hired by individuals and families at very reasonable rates.

The aim of the Open Afternoon is to give people the opportunity to come and have a look around Burview Hall, see the facilities, and find out more about the groups run in the evenings and weekends.

The afternoon is split into two sessions:
1pm to 2.30pm - Adults only (quieter session)
2.30pm to 4pm – Families as well as adults (may be noisier!)
On 12th August, people can take part in activities such as retro gaming, trying out the sensory rooms and sensory garden, gentle yoga and meet the animals from Pets as Therapy.
You can also enjoy a drink and a piece of cake !

This is an open invitation to come and have a look around, but you do need to book in advance to help us plan for numbers (however, no worries at all if you do book and are unable to make it on the day – we understand that sometimes days don’t go as we plan !!).

Everyone is welcome, and we think this may be of particular interest to people looking for a safe, supported, sensory friendly and inclusive afternoon and possibly interested in using Burview Hall’s facilities in the future.

A family with autistic / neurodivergent child(ren)
A family carer of an autistic / neurodivergent adult
A professional
If you are a family carer and the person you support doesn’t feel able to come on day, you are very welcome to come yourself anyway to have a look around and feedback to them.

A calm, relaxed, monthly meet up for adults on a Thursday afternoon for a drink, chat, craft and quiet board games.
We meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month - 2pm to 4pm

* This meet-up would suit people who are keen to connect with others in a calm, safe, supported environment. The Woodhatch Community Centre team are really friendly and welcoming.
* Beth and Millie will be there to welcome people and help people to get to know each other.
* Woodhatch Community Centre is less busy on a Thursday afternoon and we will be using the cafe area which is just off the main foyer as you enter the centre.
* It is free to attend, and you are welcome to bring your own games and craft projects.

Surrey Hills & Rivers Community Stay and Play 6/7th June

This is a wonderful inclusive opportunity - Stay and Play at Imbhams Farm, Haslemere on Saturday 6th June, with the option of a free farm visit on 7th June.

The cost is £20 per person attending on Saturday. This includes activities and a hot meal (pizza or barbecue cooking outdoors, weather permitting). Please see flyer attached.

Timing is 14:00 to 18:00.

If you are attending in the afternoon, you can also express interest in camping overnight in the bell tents. The cost is £100 per bell tent.

NAS Surrey Branch AGM and talk:

Talk on Autism Friendly Surrey and NAS Surrey Branch AGM - Guildford 12th May

NAS Surrey Branch AGM is in Guildford on Tuesday 12th May from 7.30 – 9.00pm and will include the election of their Chair and Treasurer.

The AGM takes about 10-15 minutes, then the rest of the evening will be dedicated to a talk by Mike, Jo and Gill from the Autism By Experience team, who will talk about the Autism Friendly Surrey project.

The team will share their ideas and plans for the next 12 months which include:

Pilot work to explore using sensory friendly spaces for children and adults who may be very isolated/anxious

Working with venues such as libraries, cinemas and leisure centres to encourage more inclusive offers for children and adults, and promoting these

Development of a wider network of social meet-ups and groups for autistic adults

Recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to support social meet-ups for adults

Further training workshops for businesses and services with in-depth workshops focused on topics such as Employment and Mental Health and Wellbeing
