What is People Print Grimsby?

We get asked this a lot, but People Print Grimsby is the continuation of Meet Us At Alberts project from 2024.

Our pilot project focused on the story of Albert Gait and the rise of his print company in Grimsby.

From our own research and the engagement of the public, we unearthed a wealth of information relating to our area's printmaking past.

People Print Grimsby aims to continue our research and public engagement to explore further into our rich history discovering other printers, and the sheer size of an industry so many Grimbarians aren't aware of.

We're located at at 7 Baxtergate, Freshney Place (in between Next and Waterstones).

We are open tomorrow (Tuesday 6th January) until 3pm, so come in and see what we're up to and discover the work of local artists too.

When Jill visited us at People Make Grimsby a couple of months ago, she brought with her some glorious memories of Christmas at Albert Gait, from the 1950s.

How magical it must have been to walk through those doors and experience the festive atmosphere and excitement.

Do you remember what Albert Gait was like to visit (or work at) during the Christmas period?

We would love to hear your stories.

Perhaps you remember choosing your own gifts from there, or maybe visiting was part of your Mum's Christmas traditions...

We're open tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd December) from 10am until 3pm, where you can share your memories with us, whilst browsing work by lots of local creators.

Once you've reached Waterstones, just go a little further and you'll find us. If you reach Next, you've gone too far 😉

Join us this Saturday when we'll be hosting Ormiston Maritime Academy's Fundraising Event, with:

🐶Wonky Pet Portraits - drawn on the spot by students
🖊️Poetry Workshops - Short 15 minute workshops every half an hour

Every activity is part of their fundraising efforts, with all proceeds going directly to the school trip fund.

Last but most definitely not least in our lineup is Steve of 23 Tees.

23 Tees specialises in t-shirt design based on iconic record releases from the punk and post-punk era.

All T-shirts by 23 Tees are printed using the latest direct-to-garment technology, so you don't need to worry about washing instructions as these are not transfers and will not run or fade in the wash.

Our next maker, joining us on 22nd November is

Date Night Novels began when Beth’s love of books grew into something a little… out of hand.

Each book is carefully chosen for both its story and condition, sourced from local charity shops and surplus library stock. Once selected, it’s lovingly hand-wrapped and given a personalised genre so readers can pick their perfect “blind date” with a book.

No story is left behind - books of all shapes and sizes find a home here, with the more well-loved ones heading to Beth’s reduced shelves for a second chance at being read.

Beth’s mission is simple: to spark a love of reading, one surprise book at a time - and to remind both grown-ups and kids just how magical it is to get lost in a good story.

Kurtisdoingart is a Grimsby-based illustrator creating bold, imaginative artwork that bridges the worlds of popular culture and fantasy. Next up, joining us for our Print & Paper Pop Up, we have Sarah of .bennillustration

Sarah is a printmaker and illustrator, based in Lincolnshire. After studying illustration at university and graduating in 2014, she began in illustration before finding an obsession with printmaking.

She had always been drawn to the past - from craftsmanship to the care that went into making things last.

She loves experimenting with papers and inks and will be bringing Lino prints, Christmas cards and printed decorations to the Print & Paper Pop Up.

Next up in our Traders, joining us with their great sense of humour is F***y Fielding Artart

Coming from a background in Comedy, writing and animation, they bring all of these elements together into their artistic creations!

Obsessed with wordplay, they mix a traditional style of watercolour with sassy, double entendre titles!

F***y will be bringing along a range of styles and works, including colouring books & their 2026 calendar

Next up we have Josh Williams.

Josh is the creative mind behind Yeahbstill, where his work explores mental health, play, and self-reflection through the lens of typography and print.

Using hands-on processes and old-school techniques like Letraset, screen printing, and risograph, Josh creates work that feels both deeply personal and joyfully experimental.

Beyond his own practice, he’s also the organiser of the ; the city’s annual celebration of printmaking in all its forms.
