💛 Could YOU be part of our Not Home Alone family? 💛

Sometimes, the smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference. At Not Home Alone, our amazing volunteers help us make sure older people in our community feel connected, cared for and, at key times throughout the year, not alone.

We’re looking for a few more wonderful people to join our team, and there are two ways you could get involved! 👇

🚗 LOVE PEOPLE? JOIN US AT OUR LUNCH EVENTS!

Our Sunday lunches throughout the year bring older people together for friendship, laughter and a little bit of magic.

We’re looking for friendly drivers to help make these events happen. Ideally, you’ll have your own five-seater car and be able to commit to around four events a year, helping us build those all-important familiar faces and trusted friendships. You’ll help collect our guests and take them home safely after lunch, and if you’d like to, stay and join us in making the event extra special by spending time with our guests and helping them feel welcome. 💛

🎄 And don’t worry — while our Christmas Day lunch is incredibly special, we completely understand that Christmas is family time. There’s absolutely no expectation that everyone will be available on the day!

💻 MORE OF A DIGITAL WHIZZ? WE NEED YOU TOO!

Are you great at social media, love creating content or have an interest in websites and digital communications?

We’d love some help keeping our website up to date and sharing the stories that show the difference our little charity makes. It’s also a lovely opportunity for someone studying a related subject to gain real-world experience while supporting a local cause.

💛 WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?

✨ A friendly face and a willingness to help.
✨ A little time and a big heart.
✨ An enhanced DBS check — which we’ll arrange for you.

We’re a small, volunteer-led charity, and every extra pair of hands, every new skill and every act of kindness helps us reach more people.

You don’t need to change the world on your own. You just need to be willing to be part of something that makes a difference. 💖

We’re excited to share that our Halloween Lunch will be taking place on Sunday 18th October!

This year we’ll be hand‑posting all invitations towards the end of the month — we’ve had quite a few go missing recently, so thank you for bearing with us while we make sure everyone receives theirs safely.

💛 Are happy to collect our guests, offer a friendly smile, and make sure they arrive feeling safe and valued

Last year we were honoured to be chosen, alongside Women’s Aid, as one of Cllr Janet Goodwin’s charities for her 2025/26 term as Mayor of NE Lincolnshire. Janet is a formidable local champion who supports so many causes year‑round, so to be selected for her year in office meant the world to us.

Our Treasurer, Sue (left), proudly collected our cheque, raised through Janet’s incredible fundraising efforts. A massive thank you to Janet and to everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, or supported her events. Your kindness directly supports our work.

As a small, self‑funded charity, this contribution makes a huge difference. HUGE thank you from all of us at Not Home Alone. 🥰

Our telephone rang this morning.

A lovely lady called, asking for information about our “club.”

I explained that we’re actually a very small charity. We hold a few lunches throughout the year, but the one that means the most is our Christmas Day lunch.

There was a pause before she said, “How wonderful.”

Then she quietly added, “I know it sounds silly, but I’ve been worrying so much about spending Christmas on my own this year.”

That sentence has stayed with me.

To be carrying the weight of loneliness in July, to already be worrying about facing Christmas alone six months from now is truly heartbreaking.

It’s a reminder that loneliness doesn’t just appear during the festive season. For many people, it’s there every single day, and the thought of Christmas simply makes it feel even heavier.

This is why we do what we do.

Sometimes, a warm meal is only part of what’s needed. Being welcomed, feeling seen, sharing a laugh, and knowing someone is glad you came can mean everything.

We can’t wait to meet “G” at Christmas.

And if this story makes you think of someone who might be feeling alone, perhaps today is a good day to pick up the phone, knock on a door, or simply remind them they’re not forgotten.

Because no one should have to spend months worrying about being alone at Christmas. ❤️

What a wonderful afternoon! ☕🍰

Our fabulous guests thoroughly enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at Oaklands Hall Hotel, with delicious food, great company and plenty of smiles all round.

A huge thank you to our incredible volunteers who make these events possible. We were very short of drivers, but our volunteer team stepped up brilliantly, coordinating guest pick-ups with military precision to ensure nobody missed out on what was a truly special afternoon. ❤️

We would also like to thank everyone at Oaklands Hall Hotel for once again making us feel so welcome and for serving a delicious afternoon tea in such beautiful surroundings.

Days like these simply wouldn't happen without the kindness, dedication and community spirit of everyone involved. Thank you all for helping to create such wonderful memories. 🌟
