Rebuilding the London & South Western Railway line between Torrington and Bideford

On Thursday 17th September for Heritage Week 2026 we will be having an Open Day at Tarka Valley Railway between 11am and 3pm during which times we will be giving guided tours.

Pre-booking is not required, just come down to Torrington Station to chat to our volunteers and have a look around 🚂

Our shop will also be open so be sure to take a look whilst you are with us 😊

We were delighted to have a visit organised by Torrington Library yesterday, there were lots of happy faces as the families enjoyed their rides on the train and taking part in other activities 😀

This Thursday we will again be running trains between 10.30am and 3.00pm, this time on board our 1980s multiple unit 🚉, which is fully accessible with ramp access.

At 1.30pm we are hosting a "family train experience" which can be booked through Torrington Library, see poster for more information.

Our shop will also be open selling a variety of items and of course the all important train tickets 🎟, these are "Day Rover" tickets which enable you to ride as many times as you would like throughout the day!

Our shop is also open today and is fully stocked with railway merchandise 🚂, books 📚, puzzles 🧩, teddy's🧸, our delicious jam & marmalade 😋, cards, postcards and much more 😀

We will be open until 3pm today and again every Thursday from 10am until 3pm. We are situated at the top end of the platform next to the Puffing Billy garden, come and have a look, there is something for everyone 😊🛍

🔹️ Saturday working - tomorrow 10am - 3pm 🔹️

Would you like to volunteer at Tarka Valley Railway? There are lots of interesting things to do whether you are experienced or not 🚂

Tomorrow we have our working Saturday between 10am and 3pm (usually held on the third Saturday of the month from April to October). So if you are unable to make our weekly Thursday working days due to other commitments, perhaps this might suit you better 😃

Why not come along and say hello and have a chat with us about your interests, we would love to welcome you to the team 🤝

Found on one of our stalls with a bottle of water (both will have purchased/won at our event on Saturday). We have taken it in for safekeeping, it can be collected from the railway on Thursday between 10am and 3pm 🙂
