The first time you do something you’ll probably suck at it. So practice. This is what 10,000 hours gets you.

I’ve worked with Tom since he started at Burton End Primary and can attest to the efforts he has hard work he has put in to create a whole school ethos of activity and his enthusiasm for getting everyone involved. Very well deserved.

The next award of the night is The Activity Champion of the Year Award, sponsored by Everyone Active

The winner of this year’s award is... Tom Newman! 🏆

Huge congratulations to Tom on his deserved win – bringing a fresh approach to his school’s physical activity offering and planning to bring in even more wonderful opportunities to support his students to be active! We’re delighted to be able to celebrate him like this tonight!

We’d also like to highlight the incredible work of both of our two other runners up in this category; Christina (Dee) Barham and Jemma Tilley. Both Christina and Jemma are making such positive differences to the communities they serve and ought to be incredibly proud 🌟

So proud to be present as St. Gregory CEVC Primary School received their award last night. Hugely well deserved and I’m delighted to be just a small part of their success.

The third award of the evening is the Larking Gowen Active Education Provider of the Year Award, and the winner is... stgregoryprimarysudbury🏆

Congratulations to St Gregory CEVC Primary School! With their broad curriculum, tireless support of their SEN provision and encouragement of all students into physical activity both locally, nationally and even internationally, we’re delighted to celebrate their hard work this evening.

We’d also like to recognise the two other brilliant runners up for this category; and Both should be very proud of the physical activity opportunities and support they provide to their students 🌟

Strong is not a size.

New research by Sport England shows a 12% increase in women taking part in gym activities since last year🔥

A rise was also seen amongst young people and residents living in the most deprived areas of England.

Why is this so important?

💡 It can transform girls' mental health - at a time when young women's anxiety is spiralling upwards, exercise is a vital part of countering this worrying trend

🙌 By venturing into the weights section - many of whom for the first time - young women are breaking the stereotype that to be feminine is to be small; they're taking up space unapologetically, just as the incredible Red Roses did this summer

🦴 Young women know what weight-bearing exercises can do for their future health - reducing the likelihood of developing conditions like osteoporosis which disproportionately affects women

The Chief Medical Officer recommends 2 strength training sessions per week, defined as an activity in which muscles feel some tension, shake or feel warm.

It's brilliant to see women, and young women in particular, prioritising their future health and not shying away from taking up space in a world that continues to make them feel small.
