* Ending Female Ge***al Mutilation in Nigeria: Protecting the Rights and Dignity of Every Girl*

At Inclusive Social Welfare & Empowerment Foundation (ISWEF), we are committed to building a Nigeria where every girl grows up safe, whole, and free from violence. One of the most urgent issues threatening the wellbeing of girls today is Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) — a harmful practice that continues despite laws, advocacy, and global condemnation.

FGM is not culture.FGM is not identity.FGM is a violation of human rights.
*Understanding FGM*
FGM involves the partial or total removal of the female ge***al organs for non‑medical reasons. It has no health benefits and causes lifelong physical and emotional harm.
Communities often justify it through:
Tradition
Purity
Marriageability
Family honour

*Misinterpreted religious beliefs*
But culture must never be used to justify harm.Learn more through understanding FGM.
*FGM in Nigeria: The Reality*
Nigeria has one of the highest numbers of FGM survivors in the world. The practice remains common in:
South‑West
South‑East
South‑South
Some Northern communities

Girls are often cut:
As infants
Before naming ceremonies
During adolescence
As part of “womanhood” rituals
Many suffer in silence.Explore more through FGM statistics in Nigeria.

* The Impact on Girls and Women(
FGM causes:
Severe bleeding
Infections
Painful menstruation
Complications during childbirth
Sexual dysfunction
Infertility
Trauma, anxiety, and depression

The emotional wounds are often deeper than the physical ones.Learn more through FGM health consequences.
The Law Exists — But Enforcement Is Weak
Nigeria criminalised FGM under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPP), 2015.However:

Not all states have domesticated the law
Enforcement is inconsistent
Communities hide the practice
Survivors fear stigma
Perpetrators rarely face consequences
A law without enforcement cannot protect our girls.Explore more through VAPP Act explanation.

*What Must Change*
To eliminate FGM, Nigeria must:
Strengthen community education
Empower girls with knowledge
Support survivors with medical and psychological care
Engage traditional and religious l

Technology makes communication easier, but in abusive relationships it becomes a tool for control and intimidation.

Digital abuse includes demanding passwords, checking messages without consent, tracking locations, secret recordings, and online blackmail.

Among teenagers, it often appears as constant monitoring or forced video calls. This is not love — it is control.

Healthy relationships respect privacy and boundaries. If you feel unsafe or watched online, speak up and seek help.

Digital control is abuse, and support is available.

If you see something, speak.
If you feel unsafe, talk.
If you need help, reach out.

*Silence Is Not Love — It Is a Warning*

Silence does not heal.
Silence does not keep the peace.
Silence does not protect the vulnerable.

Silence is the sound of danger growing.
Silence is the moment before harm repeats itself.
Silence is a warning.

Domestic violence and child abuse are never “private matters.”
They are not secrets to be guarded.
They are wounds that deepen in the dark.

If you witness harm, your voice can break the cycle.
If you feel unsafe, your words can open a door.
If you need help, your reach can save a life — including your own.

Today, on the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation, we raise our voices with unwavering conviction: FGM is a violation of human rights, and it has no place in any community.

As an inclusive social welfare and empowerment foundation, we are committed to protecting the wellbeing, dignity, and future of girls and women everywhere. FGM causes lifelong physical, emotional, and psychological harm. It is not culture. It is not tradition. It is violence.

We stand with survivors.
We stand with communities choosing change.
We stand with every girl who deserves to grow up safe, empowered, and free from fear.

Our message is clear: Zero tolerance means zero excuses. Together, we can end FGM.

If you see something, speak.
If you feel unsafe, talk.
If you need help, reach out.

Today, we join the world in marking World Cancer Day — a day of awareness, remembrance, and solidarity.

This is our small but meaningful way of acknowledging the unseen battles so many are fighting.

We see your courage.
We honour your strength.
We hear your voices.
And we continue to raise awareness so that more support, resources, and hope reach you in this journey.

We pay tribute to the survivors who inspire resilience, the caregivers who give their all, and the loved ones lost too soon but forever held in our hearts.

On this World Cancer Day, we choose compassion, early action, and unwavering support — because no one should ever face cancer alone.
