A handbell quarter peal was rung this afternoon in the ringing chamber of St Wilfrid’s Church. It was the very first time that this composition had ever been rung and that entitled the ringers to give it the name of Ongley Bob Major.

Named after Bernard Ongley, who died last year and had been a Grappenhall ringer.

We recently purchased a set of 15 hand bells. This expended the final part of the bell project funds. The intention is to give non-ringers the opportunity to try their hand at ringing them. On Sunday 22nd March, they were blessed at the end of the morning service.

On Wednesday afternoon the first quarter peal was rung on them. When you click on the link below, you will see that 4 ringers rang 2 bells each. There’s a photo of the bells in the comments.
