This is the point we’re trying to raise!

Having ‘mobility issues’ and then driving often comes in the same sentence, if you can’t walk properly or have mobility issues are you still SAFE to operate a vehicle???

This is what needs closer looking at in a way to support the individual but also save other lives on the road.

As an older driver you are still responsible for your own health and mobility, driving requires good sensory and mobility skills in order to be able to drive safe!

If you have age related medical issues then it’s important you get regular checks as many are falling through the net and continue to drive regardless.

😢 This is the heart-stopping moment an 'old lady drove the wrong way' down the M6 - straight into oncoming traffic. Dashcam footage shows a red Ford Fiesta driving down a service station slip road in the wrong direction, straight into oncoming traffic.

The woman left Welcome Break Corley, Warwickshire, at junction 3 and started travelling northbound on the southbound carriageway to the horror of other drivers. One driver can be seen frantically waving from his window as she drives over hatched road markings and continues past him.

“Emily Thornton-Sandy, aged 30, and her dog were travelling on the A48 when the car they were in collided with another vehicle. That vehicle was being driven the wrong way down a dual carriageway by 90-year-old John Howell Price. Emily and her dog Scout did not survive their injuries” 😭😢💔

Mrs Thornton-Sandy’s husband, Stuart, said: “Nobody should have to see their wife as I saw Emily in hospital. Emily lost her life and I lost my future. I want to do what I can to prevent other families from losing someone in such a cruel way. I never envisaged that I would live my life without her. I felt like I lost purpose when I lost Emily and Scout.”

Can you read a numberplate from 20 metres? Regular eye tests, every two years unless advised otherwise by your optometrist, will help stop your eyesight becoming a road safety hazard that puts you and other road users at risk.
