Yesterday we had a fantastic day with Newcastle United Foundation with 25 of our youngsters enjoying a brilliant tour of St James’ Park.

A huge thank you to Mick and Keith, who led the tour and were incredibly knowledgeable, entertaining and made the whole experience great fun for everyone!

After the tour, we had time for snacks, refreshments and lots more activities with the Foundation – a great day from start to finish.

This is all part of our Smile For Life summer activities programme, helping to make sure our young people stay connected, active, stimulated and happy during the long summer break – a time which can otherwise feel particularly isolating for some of the young people we support.

Days like this are about so much more than having fun. They’re about friendship, confidence, new experiences and belonging – and judging by the smiles, this one was a huge success!

Just the most wholesome day on our annual Smile For Life Beach Day! Great mates, a bit of sunshine, picnic on the sand and a dip in the sea is all we need to celebrate the wonderful community we have built. Everyone left with a big smile and plenty of vitamin D-there’ll be some good sleeps to be had tonight!

Fantastic walk with our Smile Walking Group today! Soaking in vitamin D, laughter and friendship, our group are getting stronger every month, ploughing on despite the hills and the heat 🥵. We picnicked on Hadrian’s Wall and walked through Heddon village before entering the beautiful Close House grounds and through to Wylam for delicious ice cream, before the long walk back to Newburn. Happy, tired friends smashing 9.8 miles and 27000 steps!! Well done everyone 👏👏👏💜💛

As Patron, Mick is becoming an ambassador for our charity, helping to raise awareness of our work, champion opportunities for youngsters with disabilities and additional needs, working with us to provide opportunities, and help to inspire others to get involved with our mission! We are hiring: Placement Programme Project Worker

Salary: £13,988 (actual)

Hours of work: 20 hours per week, Tuesday - Friday, 10:15 - 3:15

Closing date: 31 July

We’re looking for a friendly, creative and enthusiastic Placement Programme Project Worker to support adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism to take part in meaningful workshops on the farm.

You could be baking, making art, building something in an upcycling workshop, supporting animal care, or helping participants develop confidence, independence and new skills.

No two days are the same - it’s hands-on, varied, creative and genuinely rewarding.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a small, passionate team helping people build confidence, independence and well being through practical, hands on experiences.

Last night we were delighted to welcome our incredible volunteers and parents/carers to an Autism Awareness training evening with Phillippa Chaplin, Specialist Educator in SEMH and Autism.

The session was all about raising awareness, encouraging open conversations, and providing practical strategies and knowledge to help us better understand autism and neurodiverse differences. By learning together, sharing experiences and asking questions, we continue to strengthen our ability to provide the very best support for the amazing young people in our community.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a positive and thought-provoking evening. Together, we are creating a more understanding, inclusive and supportive future for every young person.
