We know we said we were over and out… but we’ve got one last Milky Cup update! 🥛🏆
Thanks to a last-minute donation from the workplace of one of our captains (the legend Michael Bott who coincided this donation with his 40th birthday 🎉 ), our final fundraising total has been tipped over to an incredible £2,517.43 for Oakleaf Enterprise ! ❤️
We’re absolutely delighted. As this lovely letter from Oakleaf shows, that money can make a real difference — potentially funding more than 50 counselling sessions or four 10-week group courses supporting people with their mental health.
A massive thank you once again to everyone who played, donated, supported, sponsored and helped make The Milky Cup happen. And a special thank you to the company behind that final donation match for giving our total one last brilliant boost.
£2,517.43 raised. What a result. 👏❤️

With the football finale complete, the posts wrapped up and the players hopefully fully recovered, that’s officially over and out from the Milky Cup team (until next year).

Before I close the laptop and stop harassing your Instagram feeds — for now, don’t panic, we WILL be back — I wanted to say one last thing.

I’ve only recently become involved with the Milky Cup, and the content you see online is such a tiny part of what actually goes on behind the scenes.

They may kill me for this, but the people in this photo deserve some recognition:

Because when you actually stop and think about it, what they’ve managed to keep going for all these years is pretty amazing.
Year after year, (minus Covid for obvious reasons) they organise the events, find prizes, sell tickets, sort venues, solve problems and deal with the inevitable last-minute chaos — all around full-time jobs, families and normal life.

Not one of them, has to do this. They choose to. And they’ve kept choosing to for years.

What makes it even more remarkable is where it all came from. An act of remembrance has turned into something that benefits the community in a multitude of ways for many years.

So if you see any of them this week, show them some love. It’s no easy task putting on the multitude of events yearly, and doing it with heart, yet they manage it.

And if you came to one of our events this year — thank you. Whether you bought a ticket, donated, played football, entered something or simply turned up, you helped make a difference. Every penny raised matters.
If you didn’t make it this year, there will (hopefully) always be next year.
And above all, if you’re struggling with your mental health, please remember there are people out there who want to help. People who will listen. People who would rather you said something. And most importantly people who care.
