We are deeply worried by the racist intimidation and fear we have seen in Glasgow this week.

Our thoughts are with the victim and family affected by the recent attack. What happened was horrific, and justice must be handled through the courts.

At the same time, no person, family, child, refugee, New Scot or minority ethnic community, or any other community should be threatened because of the actions of one person.

A crime belongs to the person who committed it. It does not belong to a nationality. It does not belong to a skin colour. It does not belong to a religion. It does not belong to people who had nothing to do with it.

Glasgow is a city many of us love because people from many places are able to live their lives safely here. That matters. It matters when families are afraid to leave home. It matters when people are worried about sending children to school. It matters when people feel watched, judged, or blamed before they have even spoken.

At The Showroom, we believe every person should be met as a person first. With their own story, choices, fears, hopes, mistakes, dignity and future.

We are against racism, intimidation and discrimination in any form.

To anyone in Glasgow who feels afraid right now: you belong here. You should be safe here. And we are thinking of you.

Refuweegee has also opened Safe With Me for businesses, public spaces and individuals who want to identify themselves as safe places during rising hate. Businesses can sign up through the link in the first comment 👇

We spent Friday at the Circular Mixer by Circular Glasgow and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.

The mixer is a regular informal space where local businesses meet, hear from each other, and learn what is developing across the city. This time, the focus was Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

It was really interesting to hear how the Games are being planned from a sustainability point of view: using existing venues, reducing carbon impact, working with local providers, and thinking carefully about what happens before, during and after the event.

Reuse is one part of that wider approach, and this is where our conversation became practical.

Together with our partner Ukrainian Scottish Council Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine in Glasgow we are staying in touch with the Games team and exploring how useful residual items after the event could support humanitarian aid efforts in Ukraine.

It was great to be in the room with local businesses, city partners, and people working on Glasgow 2026 while The Showroom Collective CIC is growing its own place in the city.

Thank you to Circular Glasgow and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce for bringing local businesses together.

Earlier this week we joined Glasgow’s Social Enterprise Sector Celebration and Learning Event at Glasgow City Chambers.

Thank you to Glasgow Social Enterprise Network and Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce for such a thoughtful and useful afternoon.

We met familiar faces, made new connections, and had some really good conversations about future collaborations.

One of the strongest parts of the day was the social game around Community Wealth Building and poverty. We were split into groups: some people had resources, some people needed support, and very quickly it became clear how hard it can be to get back on your feet when barriers start to build.

A sudden change in health, work, housing or family situation can push people away from stability and connection. And now, with the current economic reality, many people can feel that pressure even without one big crisis.

That is one of the reasons we are building The Showroom Collective CIC as an evening space for Glasgow: open later, accessible in price, welcoming to different people, and useful for local communities, practitioners and small businesses.

A space where people can connect, create, collaborate, or simply come in and stay for a while.

Thank you to everyone we met. It feels good to be building this within Glasgow’s social enterprise community.

hosted a Lemon Painting Workshop for beginner artists. Some picked up a brush for the first time and created beautiful paintings they were proud to take home. With a gentle touch and a professional approach, anyone can become an artist💫😍
