An update from the allotment at Sighthill Allotments

Since our first update in May, the allotment has continued to develop step by step.

We wanted to share that the funds raised through the official BUTA Kiltwalk fundraiser, together with additional funds raised through Oleksandra’s personal birthday fundraiser, contributed towards this project.

The progress has also involved significant personal spending, time and hard work from Rostyslav and his family.

Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraisers, and special thanks to Rostyslav and his family for all their practical help and dedication. 💙💛

Sighthill Allotments

Ukrainian food tasting at Springburn Community Street Festival 🎉🥣

We were very happy to share Ukrainian food and culture with the local community in Springburn — borscht, pampushky, blini, varenyky, horishky and uzvar.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who cooked, baked, prepared, transported, served and helped behind the scenes. It was a lot of work, but also a lot of joy.

Special thanks to Spirit of Springburn Allied Vehicles Charitable Trust for supporting BUTA’s Ukrainian food tasting and helping us make this possible.

Thank you also to the organising committee and local partners. Being part of the planning committee was a new and valuable experience for BUTA, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside other local organisations.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, tried the food, asked questions and shared kind words with us.

Prepared with care by BUTA volunteers and community members 💙💛

Springburn Community Street Festival 🎉🥣

BUTA Community was very happy to take part with our Ukrainian food tasting, children’s creative activity and community stall.

It was lovely to meet so many local residents, families, partners and visitors — thank you to everyone who stopped by, tried Ukrainian food, joined the activities, spoke with us and supported us.

It was great to have Ivan McKee MSP and Paul Sweeney MSP stop by the BUTA stall to say hello.

A HUGE thank you to our volunteers and community members who cooked, carried, served, organised, photographed, cleaned up and helped make the day happen.

For our small volunteer-led organisation, this was a big and very special day.

Together with children, families and volunteers, we planted sunflowers and marigolds as a small symbol of hope, memory and community.

It was a very special day to celebrate Ukrainian culture, meet people, share kindness and feel connected.

Thank you to AUGB Glasgow for inviting BUTA to be part of the day, and thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, helped with planting, shared stories or took a little plant home 🌻

🌱 BUTA Allotment Update

A little update from our community allotment project.

With the sunny weather finally here, we are trying to keep up with the work on the plot step by step — preparing the space, clearing the ground and slowly bringing the allotment back to life.

It is still a work in progress, but every small step matters. This project is about creating a green, welcoming space where our community can grow, learn, spend time outdoors and work together.

More updates coming soon.

BUTA allotment

Thank you for meeting with local Ukrainians and hearing concerns about our long-term future in the UK — matters that need to be addressed at Westminster.
